I found some posts on this topic but didn't find any definitive answer/solution. I am running MAME v.125 and my Track and Field doesn't save times on the running events (100 meter dash, 110 hurdles). It saves the other events just fine. I tried deleting my nvram file which cleared out all the high scores, but still does not recognize any worlds records in the running events. They are all "0.0" .
Anyone know a solution for this?

that sux. my friends come over specifically to try and beat my times at this game. that would suck.

I'm having the same problem with hyper sports also, it's very annoying.

There is a DIP switch which you need to toggle called "World Records". Toggle to "Erase on Reset" and restart MAME. Then, adjust this DIP back to "Don't Erase". You should have default high scores/records for all events. If the NVRAM is not created properly, you'll get this 0.00 behavior you mentioned.
Also, a few weeks back, I made a program which rewrites the NVRAM from these two games and sets the world to reasonable levels for the average gamer (the default qualifying scores on easy). You can obtain that here: http://mameload.mameworld.info/trackfldreset.zip (http://mameload.mameworld.info/trackfldreset.zip)

Yes, thank you very much!
I had tried the DIP switch reset but that didn't solve the problem. Your little app worked perfectly.
Thanks!

Would this app cause my MAME key mappings to reset to default as well?

Yes, the dip switch trick fixed this for me!
