Title: WG25K-7000 has Wave/Faded Colors
Post by: hutch32804 on August 31, 2008, 04:42:45 pm
Hello all!

I recently purchased a used Wells-Gardner 25K-7000 monitor, which was advertised as working perfectly and just re-conditioned. In the photos the video picture looked absolutely perfect..

However since it was shipped from California to Florida and recently installed in my MAME machine the monitor has a horizontal fade where the black colors are dark on the left hand side of the screen and the further right that it goes the lighter the screen gets and black seems to light.

Now, today there is a wavy pattern than is moving vertically up the screen, which usually tends to disappear after 5 minutes of warming up. You can also see (slightly) that there are horizontal lines is the picture as well.

Can anyone provide me with a starting point as how to fix/resolve/troubleshoot this issue?

Thanks,
Hutch

faulty rgb boost cap .  typically 10uF @ 250v   or

caps may have dislodged ( in shipping), look for poor solder connections .

resolder anything u deem questionable.

Did the "reconditioning" include installing a fresh capkit? I say this because you have the symptom of "uneven brightness" which is indicitive of bad capacitors.

Unfortunately I'm not exactly sure what exactly was included in the servicing..

I do already have a cap-kit for this series of monitor and I will attempt to perform this and see if this resolves the issue, but that will have to wait untill the weekend.

For the record, I have matched the serial number in the picture form the below link where the monitor is shown working.

Any idea on what would/could cause the wave pattern?? Basically is looks like smoke on the screen moving vertically. Again this has only happend a few times, only occurs during the warming up period and then disappears.. Any thoughts?

Thanks again!

C57 will cause those issues.  47uf, 160V cap.
