Title: LED Rotating Light connected to LEDWIZ? *WORKS!!*
Post by: Deefish on August 28, 2008, 11:03:44 am
Does anyone know if it is possible to connect a LED style rotating beacon light to the LEDWIZ to power it and sequence it to flash when selecting games in MALA? I don't want it to be constantly rotating, as that would be annoying.

Here is an LED light: http://shop.vendio.com/progearwarehouse/item/957962111/?s=1219746883

The one above prob is 110v, but if I get one that runs on batteries, Would that work?

Thanks for any info in advance,

That would be bad ass!!! You could make it happen at key points in the game like Afterburner when you are hitting the button to refuel or shoot missiles . Or even just start up for games like missile command.

Yea, that would be cool, good idea Shieldwolf!

We have these at work: http://www.coolsafetyproducts.com/site/898652/product/PL-300RJ

They are 4.5v dc running 4 AA batteries, LEDWIZ outputs 5v dc per terminal. I am going to borrow one and try it out on my machine tonight. For now I will just try having it flash for a few seconds when a game is selected. If someone knows how to enable in game animations, please provide details.

Just be careful with the "heavy magnet" it says it comes with.  You don't want that near your hard drive or monitor.

Good catch! I peeled those off with a screwdriver and tested it on an unused port on my LED WIZ. It lit up!!

It does seem to flash faster than when using batteries.

Ok now I have to wire it to the top of the machine and test it for longevity and sequencing.

I will post a pic later when it is up and running.

Keep us posted. If it works, I just had a really cool idea for how to use it

If the game provides an output signal - like Spy Hunter flashes the Weapons Van button when it's available - then you may be able to use that. If the LED-Wiz (or Pac-Drive) can turn if on and off, then you've got a bunch of software apps to choose from!

I'd have it shine a super bright LED in Player 2's eyes at a crucial time!  Take one of RandyT's Novagem's, take the LED out and just have it blast em to throw them off.

Friends should expect that from each other, right?    >:D
Very cool so far on your setup.   :)

Ok, its all hooked up and is working with MALA set to attract mode, so it lights randomly when the screensaver video kicks in. It also lights for about 3 seconds when I select a game to play.

It workes great and was very easy to hook up. The light goes for aprox $37 Dollars from the above link. There prob is cheaper solutions but I like this one fine since it was free from work hehe.

Short 8 meg AVI of it in action here: http://www.spidermonkeysworld.org/Mame%20LED%20Light.html

That looks bad-ass, deefish.  Nice innovation.  As mentioned earlier in the thread, if it could be hooked up to flash at the right times in SpyHunter, or even TopSpeed in VPinMame, that would be sweet.  8)
