I bought a can of Home Depot "oops" paint -- these are the ones they make a mistake on and then sell for $5 a can. So I got a gallon of "lamp black" paint for $5 which is like $15 off retail. Very nice, but...
It's Behr Porch and Floor Paint and not regular latex. It's supposed to be resistant to scuffing, peeling, scratching and what-not (i.e., you can walk on it). I figure it's better than regular interior wall latex given that it'll be really durable -- perfect for a MAME cabinet.
It's "Low Lustre enamel Deep Base No. 6300". That seems to mean it isn't glossy, but it looks like it'll be shiny enough that I won't have to top-coat with poly or another gloss finish.
Appears to otherwise be a water-based latex paint. I think that "lamp black" will look like wrought iron which is basically flat black but with a slight gloss.
I'm priming with Killz latex (the Behr paint says to use BEHR No. 75 Enamel Undercoater Primer & Sealer). I don't see why a regular latex primer won't work acceptably. They didn't have a can of "oops" Behr undercoater. ;D
What dya think? Did I waste $5? Or will this be perfect?

sounds good to me... but maybe try it on a test piece first to make sure you like the finish (it's bound to be slightly different than flat wall paint, I imagine)

I'm guessing the kilz primer should be fine, unless the floor stuff is supposed to be some sort of two-step process/formula (which I doubt). besides you are giving it a much better surface than someone who'se pulling the trading spaces paint over linoleum routine or whatnot...

Hmmmmm.... forgot to mention that I'll use it on MDF (dunno if it matters).
The paint also calls for "a high quality 3/8"-1/2" nap roller cover, nylon/polyester brush or an airless sprayer (.015 spray tip). I still intend to use a sponge roller. I bet the stuff is thicker than regular latex.

Why didnt you just ask the paint guys at Home Depot? They are trained to know what paint will work well on and what it won't.

Thicker....yeah. I used this on my nursery floor and let me tell you, it's pancake batter. To apply it I used a foamy brush thing which screws onto a generic broomstick like rod. Both are available at Home Depot. I used the Killz primer too from what I can remember. Definitely not some special product/process. I don't think you wasted your money, I was very happy with the results on my floor (I used the white). FWIW, in my experience, MDF takes paint like any other surface. Tho it's very smooth making the primer stage all the more important.
