Hey guys, I am wondering what OS i should use in the new arcade cab... got the newest build of Mame up and running on my dual core desktop (vista 32) and it seems to take a hit here and there, even though it is a dual core, raided drives and lots of Ram... Of course i am running 13 different apps in the background and have 2 or 3 instances of explorer with multiple tabs open in each... So I dunno how bad it will be with JUST Mame running (i am using the Mala front end)
Should i stick with a version of XP? I am not comfortable with a non Windows OS.... Should i install xp and strip everything out of it???

I use XP with mamewah and mala on my arcades. It works great. There's really no reason to use Vista on an arcade machine. The wiki covers XP setup: http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Hiding_Windows

Use XP or Vista x64 with 64bit version of mame

hmm, maybe i'll try a stripped down xp. I guess Ram would be the big equalizer.. i was not planning on running a dual core cpu in the mame rig, but i was wanting to play some of the newer games in the latest Mame builds.
Vista with a dual core and a higher end video card seems to be unhappy..... but being my desktop there is a lot of background process.
