Title: Ordering Mini-Pac - Question about options
Post by: cmoses on August 21, 2008, 12:23:18 pm
I am ready to order my control interface and have decided on the Mini-Pac from Ultimarc.  I like that it comes with a wiring harness as I think that will make it very easy to hook up.  My question is since I do not know what trackball I am going to go with yet, either the U-Trak or the Electric Ice-T.  Should I order it without the Opti connectors on it?  There is a price difference of $23 if I just order the one for the joysticks and switches.  If I go with the U-Trak it would work with the Mini-Pac with the opti built in, I am not sure that the Electric Ice-T will.  In either case I can order the USB connection for the tracball and not go through the Mini-Pac.

I was just curious as to any thought on this.  What is considered the better option?  Should I wait to order the Mini-Pac until I have decided on the trackball I am going with?

Yea.  Prolly in your pockets best interest to figure out what you want before ordering it.  Seems kind of obvious.

All optic devices like spinners and trackballs have very similar optical read-out of the "gearingwheel". Most work on 5 volt and have some opto-coupler in the design. Guess you can hookup most of them to the minipac-opti with some custom wiring.

After using the U-trak I'd say go for the opti-wiring harness as it makes later connectivity easy. Plus, other trackballs areeasily connected including the Happ ball, if that's your flavour. My advice is to for the U-trak though; it's a great ball.
