Before I start the hair-ripping experience that is a cap kit replacement, I'd like to make sure the problems I am displaying are in fact something that will be fixed with a cap kit.
I recently bought a cabinet and noticed when I got home the glass had scratches all over it. Dismayed, I found someone on Craigslist selling a 25" WG 25k7193 for only $50. This was great because my scratched up monitor was a k7000 series as well (though a slightly different model). While taking out my old monitor I proceeded to snap the porcelain part of the neckboard because I am a dumb oaf and leaned the monitor against me while taking it out. Oh well.
I put the new monitor in and the picture looks horrible. Keep in mind I saw this working fine at the guy's house whom I bought it from. The picture is very dark, I have to put brightness and contrast up high to see it well but then the colors look awful. I know that's the sign of needing a new cap kit, but I have another strange problem: the v-hold. The screen scrolls vertically constantly. I adjust the v-hold and if I use insane precision and a good 10 minutes I can get the dial to where the screen stops scrolling. However as soon as I adjust anything (brightness, change a game screen, etc) the screen scrolls again. I thought maybe it was the external controller board but I bought a second one and it's doing the same thing.
Is it possible there's something I missed when replacing monitors? Some grounding problem perhaps? I am willing to accept needing a cap kit replacement but that wouldn't make sense because the monitor looked fine hours before that.

if it was working fine at the vendors house it is very unlikely for the caps to just start to go leaky,ground will not cause this problem
only things that will cause this problem in this context are
bad solder joints on the chassis
bad plug connector
video input plug in wrong position
unlikely but worth checking
low +5 on the game board

Low +5? Would that be fixed with the video amplifier cable thing?

no the +5 i refer to is your power supply to the game board voltage,if this is real low then it can affect the brightness
the thing is that you have to look at this logically,your cab worked fine with the old monitor,the new monitor worked fine at the vendors place-something has either been disturbed in transit or the plug is connected wrong on the video input
you have adjusted the screen volts have'nt you,mind you this does not explain the sync problem

Thanks to everyone who replied but, you know how they say sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one? That definitely applied in my case.
I have the J-PAC and never realized I forgot to hook it back up to give it power :banghead:
I guess I never thought of it because I assumed the thing wouldn't work at ALL if it had no power. Turns out it works, just with a dark picture and wonky v-hold.
At least I solved that mystery :)
