They even have Wii games working but no Wii-mote support yet so the games do not pass the title screens or you get the "Wii-mote is not communicating with the game errors".

We Love Golf Wii game.

Mario Party 7 and Eternal Darkness (ED does not get in-game yet)

If anyone wants me to post a game and a few shots, let me know, I have a good amount of games. If I have the game and it works with this emulator I will post it for you.

What kind of PC is required for this?  Looks like it's running about 50% from the first screenshot, is that right?  How good is the emulation?

My specs are kinda low and I'm getting decent performance.

My rig:

AMD Athlon 64 @2.2Ghz.

Radeon HD 2400 Pro 512MB DDR2.

For a PC to run this emulator your CPU must support SSE2 and your video card must support Pixel Shader 2.0.

As I said, I'm getting decent performance for my old PC, but if you have a good dual core PC and you enable dual core in the emu's options, you could get much better performance. You can also use the X64 version and see more speed.

Ikaruga.

This is a great game for a Mame cab.

Burnout 2

This game has some graphical bugs and is kinda slow for my system, but others are getting 20-30 fps in this one with a dual core PC or a 64-bit OS.

The emulator also comes with an OpenGL plugin and a DirectX plugin for it's video rendering. ATI cards run DX better and Nvidia cards run OGL better. you can experiment with both plugins to see what games run better for you with either one.

I fired up this emu and it kept giving me a DX9.dll video plugin error. I read where others had the same problem, but never saw a solution.

You gotta download the latest DirectX June update or it will not run.

edit: problem solved. I was trying to get the wrong one. (DX10 instead of DX9.0c Aug 08)

And thus it requires both XP and a pretty new video card, yes?

Got it running, but only in OpenGL (which, for me, is crap). The DX9 video plugin doesn't work for me (doesn't like my X1650).

No, XP or Vista in either X86 or X64. The video card does not do very much but does need the card to have the latest DX and Pixel Shader 2.0. The CPU does all the work.

What do you mean exactly? It "doesn't like your X1650". More error messages? Bad graphics? What game were you trying to run?

Error message. It said, "Hey, I don't like your card. It's not good enough for this emulator," so I deleted the ISO and the emulator and said ---fudgesicle--- it.

Well, that's a very uncommon error message.  ;D It might be that the user has givin up on the emulator. Go into your "user files" (your brain) and do not give up and enjoy playing GC games if you can.

I didn't care enough to mess with it any more than that. There's only a small handful of Gamecube games I'd even care to play. I almost bought one the other day because it was really cheap, but held off because I knew it would mostly collect dust.

I'll put more effort into my cab or my eventual Dreamcast bartop.

Resident Evil the Remake.

This game runs slow for me without a dual core PC and the screen is off-center, but this is a tough game to get right.

cool but a quad core won't be out for a few more years and then it would not be affordable for a few more years after it is released to the everyday user.

so 4-5 years from now it may be golden.

The emulator cannot gain anymore power from anymore processors. The emulators core is on one thread and the video is on another. That's all there is to it.

Then I'm confused as to what the Core 2 Quad and the AMD Phenom X4 (AM2+) are. (It was so much easier when things were just 286, 386, 486, etc)

if that were the case what happend to the chd's and N64 and dreamcast?

I guess am a little confused on how they can be skipped all of the sudden and next gen console's work with todays pc's but the prior gen console's still struggle.

both the n64 and dreamcast emulators are at acceptable levels (little to no graphics bugs and full speed on a decent system)

I like the GC and in turn would like a GC emulator. This is one of the few consoles that you just never see anywhere being used as far as emulators go, so I tried to let you guys know how it was working and that it does work. I am, an educated user of this software, and that is the extent of my "role".

People bring all kinds of info about many different things on this forum, that does not mean they created it, only that they enjoy it and want others to, too.

Not trying to be an ass here, but if we want to know the playability of games, and the screenshots for them, shouldn't we be heading over to the emu website?  I assume it's one of the things they've got going on there.

Are you sure it only requires pixel shader 2.0?  9.0c is the first version with pixel shader 3.0.  It seems weird to require 9.0c if pixel shader 3.0 is not required.
Title: Re: Gamecube emulation is at a playable state (Lots-o-pics, more coming soon)
Post by: Hemi on August 29, 2008, 02:57:12 am
I'm positive. Pixel shader 2.0 with the "latest" DX9 Aug update is now required. The June DX update was needed before but now the Aug update is needed as of today.

DX9 and PS3 do not go together as you seem to think.

I have been using this emulator for some time now and I think I know what is needed to run this emulator. You do need a CPU that use SSE2, also.

When DX9 first came out PS 2.0 was the latest Pixel shader that was out. That has nothing to do with what this emulator needs to run. It needs what it needs no matter what came out when.

I think they should make it on OpenGL instead of DirectX. That allows for faster development as OSX and Linux programmers can join. And foremost: the Cube itself runs on OpenGL already!
And emulation does not support GPU acceleration? That's stupid!
Is the project going to support Wii as well? They have roughly the same hardware.

God, you are such a dork Hemi.  Look at what version of DX first supported pixel shader 3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pixel_Shader_3).  Hint: 9.0c

You said that the emulator required 9.0c.  Most software that requires at least 9.0c to run requires it for one reason and one reason only: pixel shader 3.  Hence my question.  I wasn't attacking you.

It supports both. There are two plugins, one for OGL and one for DX9

And foremost: the Cube itself runs on OpenGL already!

ATI is known for it's DX and not for it's OGL. The cube's graphics were made by ATI hence the ATI on the front of the console so it would seem you have it mixed up.

And emulation does not support GPU acceleration? That's stupid!

Other emulators do, this emulator does not, yet. And I do not think it's stupid, I think the word stupid is stupid when used in a situation that you do not understand.

Is the project going to support Wii as well? They have roughly the same hardware.

It already does, if you looked at this thread at all you would have seen the Wii screen shots. Wii games do not have any controller support yet so the games do not go any further than the title screens, yet.

Whatever man. The emulator needs the latest DX9 and PS 2.0, not PS 3.0.

Just check the Gamecube/Wii Specs:
They have ATI GPU chips which are controlled by OpenGL instructions!
Seems like a big workaround to use DirectX to have the CPU emulate code that can be executed by the GPU directly. No stupid in here!
DirectX is weird as the the CPU is a PPC, and PPC os-es always used OpenGL for 3D. MS never made DirectX code for PPC. If Apple's Rosetta was open-source, emulating Wii's would probably be very fast and easy.

I think the emulators developers were looking for ATI users and Nvidia users to both be able to use this emulator. The ATI cards do not handle OGL very well at all and so ATI card users need DX. The Nvidia cards run OGL much better than ATI cards and so Nvidia users can use Nvidia for it's OGL.

Whatever man. The emulator needs the latest DX9 and PS 2.0, not PS 3.0.

Well, then it just needs the latest DX9.  There's no such thing as version of DX9 or DX9 hardware that doesn't support PS 2.0.  Saying that it needs DX9 and PS 2.0 is like saying that a particular DVD requires a DVD player and a play-button in order to watch it.
