Title: Tron is ALIVE!!!! WAS: Tron help needed
Post by: shilmover on August 18, 2008, 11:12:27 pm
So I picked up a Tron (see here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=83470.0 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=83470.0)), but I wanted to keep the repairs separate.  Hope that is okay.

Here is what I know:
- I have power to all the lights, monitor.
- Game does not power up.  No sound.
- No corrosion on the Power Supply board.
- The PCB was repaired as some point.
- I disconnected the Purple wire, no difference.
- Fuses appear to be good (what is the best way to test them beyond visually?  Resistance?)

A few of questions...
1.  The yellow LED on the PCB, i know that flashes when ROMs are bad, but is on on when there is power to the board?
2.  Where can I check to see that voltage is getting to the PCB?
3.  Which of the 7 fuses is for the Power Supply?

I would like to try to fix it before I replace the Power Supply board.

Update.

Just checked the voltages.

+12V is good
+5 is reading +2.91V with the battery connected and +3.20V with the battery disconnected.

Do you have the manual yet ?

Yup.  Found one in the Cab.  :-)

There is definitely not enough voltage heading to the PCB.  Ordered a rebuild kit from Bob.

Thanks!

Orange glow in the monitor tube neck?

Yup.

Monitor is definitely firing up, PCB is not.

Figured out last night that there is not enough voltage (+5V) coming to the PCB.  Ordered a PS rebuild kit from Bob.

OK.

Came back from vacation and installed the Bob Roberts kit.  Still getting only +3.29V from the Power Supply.   :dizzy:

Any suggestions?

Woo Hoo!!!

Got Tron working this morning.

Monitor needs to be re-capped, but other than that, everything works on it.  My kids (and I) are so happy!   :D

Anyone have a list of the caps that need to be replaced on a Tron monitor?

There is no such thing as a "Tron monitor". Look at the monitor Chassis and find the monitor type. If in doubt, post a pic of the chassis.

Damn!

I just placed an order with him and forgot that.

Anyone have a list of the caps from that kit?  I have a large number of caps sitting around.
