I just saw the link on Gizmodo and figured I'd share. Honestly, I've seen better cabs coming out of this site than that thing but thats just my opinion. Thoughts?

I love the comments from people who clearly know less than us ;D

Booo, I posted a comment telling this guy his questions could be answered here, and they removed it.

Yeah that is funny.
Though they had an interesting idea about a "Monolith" style cab that I'm sure someone here could do. ;) >:D
-
Someone just posted a link to gameex. I'm sure it'll get removed as well.
-
It's kinda cool, but not my style. Classic all the way, baby!
-
I considered it as Spam as it was in the Project Announcements forum.
You don't promote your cabinet wares in there.
Maybe you can in BST, but otherwise it looks tacky.
I like it though and with some imagination could inspire me to do my slim cab.

I don't like it's angularity, but I'm guessing it a combination of convenience of building and the limit of his abilities in wood-working. The color has been used before for similar-minded projects here...although, Computer Space came in other colors. ??

Looks more like a Pong than a Computer Space to me...
-
Wouldn't that think fall over? It looks off balance to me and short of anchoring it to a wall or something I'd say with any type of vigorous game play there's a good chance that thing is tipping over!
-
Looks a bit ugly to me, like it's made out of cardboard and an industrial computer panel.
-
I kind of like it, but it looks like more like a great big console than an arcade machine to me. Looks very commercial.
-
Sharp angles, flat sides, straight cuts... it all spells: AMATEUR!

Thats what came to my mind as well.

If you look at his site (http://www.retrospace.nl/history.html), you can see where the inspiration for his design came from. The more I look at it, the more I like it.
Or look at his thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=83388.0) in Project Announcements.

I dunno dude. Just cuz he outlined something in yellow, doesn't mean he did a good job.
;D :P

LOL, a third topic :D. I gave BYOAC the scoop last friday, but as it is going hard on gadget-sites, some of you reposted it.
And regarding taste: better make some very happy than many little happy.
-
would been cooler with rounder edges. The things is too square and pointy.

He's selling that thing? Guess I didn't navigate far enough into his site. :dunno

Forget how the cabinet looks... Did anyone go to the end of the site and see the girl?
Check out the king kong feet on that beast!

Go back to high-school physics class and redo your optics! Never heard of skewing distortion in corners of wide angle images? Wonder how your hairy men foot would do in that corner? Godzilla? And its pretty fair to the original image, which suffered from exact the same deformation!

Anybody can borrow Dads jigsaw and round a corner. To make a cabinet with all straight edges and look this good, he definitely has an eye for design.
I love this thing. Blanka has clearly come up with an original design that hints at yesteryear yet still has a modern feel. :applaud:

But the real question is why is the model in the picture barefoot?
-
You think she would look better in Doc Martin's?
It would help to look at the whole link in the OP. Its clearly a recreation of some of the original marketing.

She couldn't find any clown shoes to go on those monster feet.

Maybe I'm odd man out, but I only kinda like the 1971 Computer Space design, and kinda don't like this new design.
It looks more like a kiosk device than an arcade machine to me, and I have to think with vigorous play it wouldn't be stable and could even tip over... at least it looks like it might. I know he said on his site that it can be bolted to the wall, but honestly does anyone really want to do that?
I had some relatives over this weekend for a visit and they were tripping out over my arcade and HT setup. The cab finally got some rough play and I was surprised at how much my UA II cab shook, and it's a big cab with a big footprint. It didn't shake bad, but more than I expected. After seeing that, like I said I'd be afraid of this falling on me!
I guess what turns me off aside from it looking flimsy is all the sharp angles. Don't get me wrong, it has clean lines and looks like great fit and finish, but it does look amateurish to me... sorry, just my opinion. The Computer Space cab is at least rounded and has a futuristic Jetson look to it, this one :dunno like someone else said, kinda looks like cardboard. Maybe if it was just a tad thicker it would make it look more solid.
Dressed up some this could have a cool Star Trek look with some LCARS panels and graphics. I know Trek isn't everyone's cup of tea, it just has that kinda look to me.
Last comment, and I think someone already did something like this... it also kinda looks like just a flat screen mounted on a wall with a CP shelf mounted under it.

I think the UA II cabs are extra flimsy. Yeah, it's huge, but it's 2 parts held together with cam locks. Real arcade cabinets glued, screwed stapled shake much less than a UA II.
It's obviously a design that you either love or hate.

There's two kinds of people in this world, those who put people into one of two categories and those who don't. 8) :D
Seriously though, can't say I love it or hate it, but it's not for me.

And she was afraid to show them, even.

Sexist. (hee hee hee hee)

I'm siding with this. To be more similar to Computer Space, as well as given the width to depth ratio of this homage to it, rounded corners and edges are a must.

Expect something in the range of 5000-6000 euros including VAT for a full working system
Muhaha :laugh2:
