Finally I got started on my next project, the WeeCade. I previously made the Project MAME cabinet, but decided to use my experience to make a bartop.
The WeeCade is a 2 player bartop, only 18" inch wide. I have tested the size in carboard and 18" was the bare minimum width for a comfortable 2 player setup.
Some of the features of the WeeCade are:
2 Players
2 x 8 watt RMS + 4" 2-way car speakers
MagStik Plus joysticks
17" LCD
Only 18" width
Standard PC parts only, no laptop parts!

Looks good. I've built'em at 9", 16", and 24" wide. 24" is what I decided on for a comfortable 2 player street fighter layout bartop. Any chance you can post pics here instead of a redirect to your site?
-
Loved the Project Mame! Inspired me to make another cab!
Keep us updated on your progress!

Cool. Your call. People like to ask questions, and it's cool when it's all in a thread.

I love this build.. I have been trying to think of something for a 2 player bartop.. are you able to fit the motherboard and all components inside?
I would love to see plans.

The PSU and the motherboard fits, but there are only about 2 mm room left on each side :D
I will post the plans tonight on the homepage in PDF format.
I have posted the plans now :D

Wow that looks very good my [M] brethren!

Great job! One of my favorite bartops.
-
This is a very classy machine!
Congratulations on the outstanding job.
-
What are the holes in the plexi for?
-
Very nice! You dont hang about do you! :applaud:
-
That CPO is dead sexy!!
Awesome work.
-
What are the holes in the plexi for?
The holes is for screws, so that the plexi will hide the heads on the screws, but I have not used them yet, I still need to arange my wiring, thats why I haven't used the holes yet.
-
Added some picture of the finished cabinet. Hope you like it.
-
NICE!!!! :applaud:
-
That is so nice. Makes me want to build one even more.

Really cool - How is the viewing angle? From the pictures it looks a little steep even though it's probably perfect...
-
The viewing angle is perfect if it's placed on a bar, a kitchen table or coffee-table and you're sitting in the couch. That also what the angle is made for and testet before contructing it ;)
Thanks by the way :)
-
I soooo want to make something similar to this... My big Mame cabinet is just starting, b ut the parts scrapped from it would be perfect to put in a bartop!
and 4 buttons means i can do Neo Geo stuff :)
Must resist! (for now!)
Looks awesome man!

You know, Neo Geo is the reason I made it a 4 button setup :) With 4 buttons I can plays most older games and NEO GEO. Perfect for a Bartop I think ;)
-
Added a picture of the finished cabinet with lights on and front-end running. Finally it's completely finished.
-
awsome work
What did you use for the marquee retainer, that is perfect for a project I'm working on
-
I used stainless steel moulding, but that's not something you can buy in hardware stores. You can use aluminium moulding instead, should look the same ;)
-

This thing is fantastic! Any chance on marketing that CP metal peice? I'd be interested in one.
-
 ahh this was for sale but slipped away right before my eyes
Here is a screenshot from the auction:
I could not afford a higher price cause I live in Norway and the WeeCade was in Denmark. If you add transportation cost and currency (100 NOK/112 DKK) it would have cost about 11000 NOK.
Thats about 1730 $
Maybe lokesen can make me a another bartop ?
- With only 1 joystick (I like the buttons a little longer away from the joystick, maybe a spinner in between)
- Speakers on the back of the cab and black paint around the monitor inside the cab, so that the white light/speakers dont reflect on the monitor.
- I would like to have a 19 " instead of 17"
- Usb, headphone and mic input on the side of the cab so that when the cab is mounted on the wall you can have easy access.
- Maybe even a easy change between horizontal and vertical... :blah:
-
This thing looks fantastic!!

I got some feedback from others making a weecade, here you can see the result here:

Awesome work! I love the old school feel of the art.....ah takes me back to the 80's
-
Does Maximus FE run on the 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 of the TFT screen? Or is it upscaled 640x480?
-
Maximus runs 640x480 because my computer isn't powerful enough to run Maximus in 1280x1024.
-
(http://www.koenigs.dk/mame/amplifier.jpg)
What search words did you use on Ebay to find this amplifier? Ive been searching Ebay for the same thing and cant find it.
-
I can't find them on Ebay anymore, but I would not recommend it anyway, as it is very noisy (ambient).
I would rather recommend using parts from PC speakers.
Best regards
-
Is this something?
http://www.arcadeshop.de/Audio-Video-Audio-Amplifier-stereo_767.html
-
That would probably be fine, but you can not connect it to a computer psu as it is way too noisy. You have to find a separate PSU for the amplifier, otherwise you will be able to hear the harddisk, cpu, ram etc in the speakers.
I recommend using parts from pc speakers and connect it to the 110/220 volt outlet...
