Title: Control interface recommendation - I-PAC, Mini-PAC, KeyWIZ ???
Post by: cmoses on August 12, 2008, 11:18:18 am
I am looking for advice and recommendations on which control interface will best suit my needs.  I am converting a cab that was a 2 player vertical cab so it had a joystick and two buttons for each player as well as player 1 and player 2 start buttons.  I would like to use the control panel initially to do some testing and configuring so I know I will need a control interface to do this.

In the long run, I plan to replace that control panel with one that contains (2) U360's and some Electric Ice player buttons.  It would also have a few admin buttons and possibly a trackball and or spinner.  I plan to use the U360's through the USB connection so that I can run the joystick mappings for different games (4 way, 8 way, analog, 45 degree, etc).

So I am looking for suggestions as to what will fit my needs with my current control panel, but also be able to hopefully fulfill my needs when I upgrade my control panel down the line.

Any comments and suggestions are always appreciated.

If your cab is jamma, a j-pac will get you up and running very easily. It doesn't work for trackballs and spinners though, so it is not a complete solution. To run everything, check out the u-hid; also from Ultimarc. That is the only one I know of that will cover everything by itself. If you are already going to use USB for your u360's, then you could just use USB trackballs and spinners also. If so, I would lean back towards the j-pac.

The cabinet was Jamma, but not anymore.  The screen was burned in and although the Jamma board works, the rest did not.  So it will be a MAME machine.  I just want to be able to use the existing control panel for testing initially before building my own.  I will still need some kind of control interface because I will still have some buttons that will not be tied to the U360s.  Admin, coin, start and maybe some pinball buttons on the side.  I am just looking for something that will work now and after I redo the control panel.  The Jamma part of the cab is gone.
