Title: Mame-adult-games-filter
Post by: clok on June 09, 2003, 11:53:12 am
What would you guys suggest for hideing the Adult games in MAME. Looks like I may have some underage players on my machine soon. I would like to make the Adult games unavailable, but I do not want it so I cant play them (I always liked Qix, and the adult varations just give a slightly better goal). 2 Icons to start mame is what Im looking at ( 2 installs) one for everything, and oen with the filter. Im looking for Ideas on what you have done, what you would suggest, or what works.

thanks
Clok

Oh I did search, got one Hit on MameWah (will Look into it) still looking for advice or thougths)

You can filter out the adult games using MAMEWAH (+ CatVer), although atm it is not possible to entirely prevent people from viewing such games (someone could switch games list and see said games).  I may well add something to prevent this in a future version.

I believe most other FE's can filter by this as well - give them a look :)

a password lock would be cool.  Maybe one where youhave to enter a combinations of buttons or joystick moves to unlock the adult games, and to lock them again

Be careful!  You are aware that an adult filter will significantly cut down on all those glorious mahjong games!   You may only be left with about a thousand mahjong titles to choose from!   ;)

I believe emuloader has a parental lock.

Couldn't he just change the list switch be a button he doesn't have? That way he could easily switch it back, but no underage could. This filter is GOOD! (I recommend using MAMEWAH for this!)

There's an easy way to do this with any frontend that supports multiple rom paths. Move all adult roms to a separate folder. Make 2 copies of your chosen front end and have them in 2 separate folders. One copy will have the main roms as its only rom path, configure the other copy to search the main rompath and the adult rompath. Give the kids a shortcut to the "censored" frontend .exe and stash a shortcut to the "uncensored" frontend .exe for yourself.

Very true...but I personally would find this a pain since you need to know which ROMs are adult in the first place, and then manually move them.  Of course each time a new MAME comes out you need to check for new adult games.  The danger is it wouldn't be hard to miss one...

Good idea (I forgot about the customisable keys myself, lol!).

I'd just use Mame Content Manager and Catlist. It will move them for you AFAIK. Even if it won't move them you definitely can have it change the extension on the naughty roms, then just manually move the ones with the changed extension (sort by type, then drag and drop) and flip them all back to .zip from the commandline in one shot.

Aahh I see...sorry I thought you meant just doing-it-yourself :)

just let the kids play the games! i am sure they will learn more about sex from that game then from what most parents "teach" their kids.

parents: they suck.  :'(
