what error did romlister give you?

I'm the author of it, and this is troubling to me.  romlister is the tool you need to get rid of this stuff that you don't want, so let's get it working.

PM me or you can find my email address on the main romlister website.

are you using the latest version?
http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister

I had several prototypes of build 13, but this one seems pretty stable to me.

What O/S, and MAME version are you using?
Did you build a merged xml file?  (see the tutorial links)

Did you see the main GUI at all? (see screenshots on homepage)

it was version 010, i made the xml file and i saw the main screen
clicked upright, vertical, 3 button, 2,4,8 way ,playable and mala game list(and tryed default)

clicked go and upcame error, will try latest vers.

will this sort them and get rid of dups?
and take the extentions from the names, eg set1 ect

Please do.  It's come a long way since then.

I know what the deal is with your previous lockup:  Creating XML output can generate a giant file (easily 20 mb or more) and if you're trying to display that to the screen, which is the default, windows has to try and cram a 20mb file into that display window.  that'll take a very long time to process, and appear as if it's not responding.

That's all behind us now-version 13+ doesn't let you do that anymore, so this should be a lot more friendly to work with.

>will this sort them and get rid of dups?
Check "no clones" under Misc and the dups will go away.  Beware, that a few games (pac-man, puckman) are where the clone is the US version we're used to.  You can add those by hand by:

1) clicking "list all roms"
2) locate pac-man in that list and right click on it.
3) select "add to working list"

As for sorting, the list is not sorted-your front end should do that for you, but it's a feature I'm adding to the next release.
Edit: the list you create can be sorted (just click on the heading in the list), but the final outputted list isn't, but as I say, the FE should sort it for you in the end.

>and take the extentions from the names, eg set1 ect

It does not.  Again, your FE should really be doing that for you, but again, it's likely to be a feature in the next release!

Edit: If you are using Mala (it appears that you are?) Load the gamelist up in the mala gamelist editor, and under gamelist is an option to "remove brackets from name" option which should handle that for you.

I believe you can create a gamelist in MALA which simply hides all that extra stuff ....... I would ask Loadman how to do this ...... it has been a very long time for me.
