Title: missed out on a free sega saturn by THIS much...
Post by: danny_galaga on August 07, 2008, 02:10:07 am

overheard a conversation today at work. a couple of dudes at work were talking about old games etc. one of them mentions the saturn. the other casually says 'yeah, i actually had that one. i threw it away just recently'

hes not the brightest spark, but he knows im into old computer games. i asked him what was wrong with it. 'oh, the controller didnt work and i couldnt find another one'. he has also thrown out his atari 2600. of course there were magnitudes more 2600s made than saturns but it goes to show how little concept he has. i guess he doesnt know the expression 'one mans trash...'
so ive told him for gods sake tell me if hes going to throw anything else away. even if im not interested, ill sell it on ebay and go halves with him for the effort...

Pretty much everyone knows at work not to throw ANYTHING away without consulting me first. I found a bag of 40 *BRAND NEW* USB cables in the trash the other day and was like, "WHO DID THIS?!? WHAT SORT OF MAD WORLD ARE WE LIVING IN?!?"

nice find. usb cables are  not the cheapest thing in the world either. I have trouble throwing stuff away so its hard enough to keep my own trash under control without taking on anybody elses.

I've got one of those plastic rubbermaid containers that is probably about 15-20 gallons in volume...jammed packed with the biggest variety wire bunghole you have EVER seen!! I know it easily weighs over 100 lbs. I would be lost without it because any excess wire I own is in this box. I would never part with any of it.

Ive got one of those containers mentioned above FULL of cords and power bricks from rechargables and anything that plugs in that I no longer own. Good stuff, really.

Yeah, it's nice to just dig and find the cable you need, rather than having to go buy one. My wife says I have too much junk, but everytime I make a trip to Radio Shack, I realize I'm nowhere near having all I need on-hand.

When I moved to Singapore I threw away most of my electronics stuff. Lots of cables, transformers, a monitor or two and even a few working tv's. I gave most of my old Playstations (had 3) and handhelds away. The "trash" was about 2 carloads and I had to bring it to the dump myself. Sometimes you just have to let go....

but it goes to show how little concept he has.

Some people just do not care about a toy or an item like a video game, and with so much going on in the world, like being able to find a job or being able to eat and having a place to live, it's just not very important. I can see exactly what you mean and I do agree with you, but there is another side to this that people like us who are abscessed with games sometimes miss.

Dude, If you still had MFM cables in your box 'o cables you are absolutely hardcore! You're my hero.

I've been paring down my box of cable for years, and have finally got it down to one single box of about 30 pounds. But I haven't had a pair of MFM cables in it for at least 15 years.

well, to put what you quoted back into context, i said:

also, i did mention that he works with me, so he doesnt have to obsess about where his next meal is coming from (although he does like to eat)  ;D

Interesting... first comment is about tough times and priorities of people in need.  Second comment is teasing someone for picking items out of the garbage.

If they are going through tough times why don't they sell the stuff to someone for something instead of junking it?  Whats more important than getting 5 dollars for something you were going to just throw away.

Why are you rolling your eyes? He pointed out where you contradicted yourself.

And I see nothing wrong with pulling stuff out of the trash in an office where all the cans have only paper in them. (Though I see your little smile there, so I know you're just messing with me.)

Oh, and I'm a Trash Digger, not a Garbage Picker.

But you can call me Peaches.  :-*

Calm down there ladies, it was garbage picker PLUS THE SMILE. See, the smile stands for something in this case, it means it was a JOKE!!

Should I have put two or three other smiles there to not confuse you, along with "you're a fantastic human being" in bold print.

We got it - which is why I used the word "tease".  See, words have particular meanings, if you care to pay attention to them.

You meant more than you're letting on now otherwise you would have had no reason to even post if you didn't want to "stick it to me" in some way or try to prove something about what I said. Even Ginsu didn't seem to get it with this post.

Why are you rolling your eyes? He pointed out where you contradicted yourself.

If you knew I was joking you would have known why I rolled my eyes. Chad was going for one of those "gottcha" moments and failed badly.

You guys are both fantastic human beings.  :P

History has demonstrated you don't have this tendency, bro... nor a sense of humour.  See if you can find one and get back to us.  It's pretty much a prerequisite around here.

Ah.  I believe that there is a particular rule about including user's names in a signature.  Not sure why that's in place though.

I think yours are done because they are funny.  The one about the post with the stuff for sale without the cables and the guy asked if they were included is a riot.  The one about not putting your kids in the fridge is good too.

Others can get a little personal and may not be considered to be very nice.  Or perhaps, to point out the shortcomings in others' posts.   :P

I guess not many people actually got to see what happened since it all got deleted.

Basically, I made a joke to Gametech in his thread that he seems to have pissed off many forum members in his PS emulator thread and I commented on how I know what that was like. (pissing off many members). I then joked and said that he should at least wait a while before he pisses the forum off, as I did. It was a joke, but Ginsu comes in and says I was offending him and the entire forum in my joke. I then decide that Ginsu is a crazy person for taking my joke as an insult (and knowing my previous problems were takin' into account from him otherwise he would not have takin' it so badly) and I made a sig basically saying he was crazy because of how he was acting. Needless to say, he did not like it and no doubt pmed Saint to no end until he banned me.

I still say the guy has problems, and he likes to talk about me, but he has a pretty good ignore list going for himself, too.

I was posting and helping members in the main forum till Ginsu dragged me into another melee and ultimately got me banned. Givin' my bad record here even if I was right in this case (and I was right), just the fact that I was involved in an argument automatically means I'm the cause of it.

The rumor is that you got banned because of the insult in your sig (a clear violation of the rules), not simply because you were in another argument.  It's almost comical how you seem to feel you've never done anything wrong on this forum and that your always getting persecuted for no good reason.

Also, if you are not capable of restraining yourself from responding to someone you feel is dragging you into "another melee", then put that person on your ignore list.  You actually are allowed to not respond to people you feel are baiting you into a confrontation, in fact I would even say that no response is the preferred response.

Oh, and Ginsu, one last thing before I go (and I won't be back here) I seemed to have picked up some info from a friend who made a transaction with you on this forum. What info that is, you can figure out for yourself, and what exactly that means, you can figure that out, too.  >:D
