Title: U360 specifics (?)
Post by: Ummon on August 06, 2008, 11:18:23 pm
Okay, so in input mode, the U360 handles itself plus eight buttons. I saw someone mention somewhere that if one used only U360s on their panel, including for buttons, that they'd have to use joy2key. Is this so? Why?

I use a U360 only panel with MAME without joy2key. Perhaps they were talking about a less customizable emulator :dunno ? The U360 works as a game controller (http://www.ultimarc.com/ultrastik_inst.html) which is supported by MAME.

They were talking about features in Daphne that were not able to be assigned to game pad buttons, only keyboard. So I recommended joy2key.

It was a special circumstance.

What features in Daphne use only keyboard inputs?  Not very familiar with Daphne.

Sounds to me like all the inputs.  Looks like joy2key will resolve it.

I simply don't understand limited emulators.  After all the work writing it, throwing in gamepad support should be trivial.

Some emulator cores are not based on specific OS, so gamepad comes in later via the port to whatever platform you are using.  It's also not the highest of priority for testing as everyone has a keyboard, but not everyone has a particular gamepad.
