HAPPS OPTICAL STICKS: Fyi...
Simple question.......its got 4 wires stickin outta it.....Red, Black, orange and Yellow.
I already have 1 spinner wired into the Player 1 Rotary axis ....but now I'd like to wire in two of these spinner sticks as well.
Can you tell me:
1) how to have the 2 sticks, 1 spinner (can I wire the spinner and 1 of the rotary sticks into the same inputs on the OptiPac? Only 1 or the other control will be used at any time).
2) How to wire the 2 sticks, 1 spinner, and ONE TRACKBALL (haven't added yet, considering it).

I don't believe it would be a good thing to wire 2 sets to the same set of inputs on the Opti-pac. Don't quote me on it though.
You may want to consider wiring it in as follows:
Trackball to trackball 1 inputs
Spinner to rotary 1 inputs
Then the optipac can autoswitch to the one that you'd be using
and the 2 rotary sticks to the the 2nd trackball inputs - one to the x axis and the other to the y axis.
If you run the port of Analog Mame + you can reassign the respective axis to players one and two.
Just a guess, at least that's how I'd wire it. But then again, I'm a drunk. ;D

Smack has it pretty well down for a drunk guy. ;)
Since you have optical spinners, I hope you are going to use Mame:Analog+ or (I think) AdvanceMame to be able to remap mouse axis to different players.
1) Without the trackball, I'd put either the spinner or both rotaries on "trackball", the other(s) on "rotary". You most likely should put the rotaries on player 1 X and player 1 Y axes, and the spinner on player 1 X axis. Use Analog+ "-splitmouseaxes" and "-switchmiceaxes" options to split the rotaries to the different players; AdvanceMame does it a different way. If you have a USB optipac and winME/98, you could put the rotaries on different players X axis and use "-switchablemice" but don't use "-splitmouseaxes".
2) As long as you don't plan on using the rotaries at the same time as the trackball, I'd put the trackball on player 1 trackball, the rotaries on player 1 rotary, and the spinner on player 2 rotary. If you don't plan on two trackballs at the same time, nor the spinner and the rotaries at the same time, use the "-singlemouse" and, again, "-splitmouseaxes" and "-switchmiceaxes" options for analog+.

And mame+ will do the job on Windows 2000 right? 1 trackball and, essentially, 3 spinners.
only the two stick spinners would be wired to work at the same time....

Analog+ can split the axis on win2000 or winXP, so with one stick spinner on X axis, and the other on Y axis will be fine on your system.
Just ignore the italicized text in my prior post.
