Well here we are again...I suppose it's always best to plan
ahead & cut out any despair later on.

This is for my longer panel at the front of my cab...it's going to be
based on the Williams Multi game panel.
-
I always recommend two things
1) always use quick disconnect and stranded wire. This way you can take it apart without rewiring.
2) buy some crap particle board and try it out first. See if you like it. Or heck, cardboard will do. Make sure that your hands fit ect. I redid a few control panels of mine 3 - 4 times before I liked them.
Looks good, if you can handle the lack of 6 buttons when you play sf3a. But some people only do super upper cuts anyway :)
-
Thanks for the tip...err...what is Sf3a? I guess some kind of fighter?
This panel will be for the horizontal games only & I won't be installing
every game cause' most of em' are crap. The other part will be head to head
vertical config with 2 buttons each.
-
I don't get it. Explain why your control panel is setup the way it is.

Before I joined these boards a few weeks ago I had seen 3 way cocktail config...
so I thought it would be really cool to have a Williams Multi Game panel
along the front. Like this one made by Spacies.
I'm no way ripping him off...he just happened to have the same idea. :)
My cab will look something like the one shown below.

If thats the layout you are going for you need to at least move the right hand side joystick to the left.
At present the bottom of your right hand/wrist would be lying on the buttons below it.
-
I just meant gameplay wise. It makes no sense to me.

Well spotted Franco...I will look into this further ;)

I think you are trying to say this CP is very limited to the amount of games that
can be played?
That may be correct...IMO Williams made the best games in the golden era
which is where I am from.. lol
They were made so the 2 player game was always a change over apart from
Joust...but I'm not to bothered about that.
I can still player Crazy Climber, Smash TV, Rolling Thunder, Defender, Robotron
So I don't really care.

Its a replication of the Williams Multigame CP that allowed Robotron, Defender, Joust, Stargate, Bubbles and Splat! to be played in a single cabinet.

Edit: Looking at that image the button layout is similar to your model. Im guessing if you are stood up your forearms are at an angle and so there must not be an issue with touching the lower buttons. However as yours is a cocktail your forearms are more likely to be parallel to the panel and they may be in the way.
Looking at Spacies panel it appears that this may be the case as it seems he has moved the 'black' button to the right.
As Lilwolf said, the onlyway to be sure is to do a card/hardboard mockup with the controls in place. Install the components in the card/hardboard and then mount it to something at the same height and angle that you are planning on having your CP. Sit on a stool or whatever you intend on using and then see if there are any issues with the button placement. Thats the only way to be sure.
-
That's it...ooohhhh don't you just love that panel...fantastic :D
-
I edited my previous post but I think you may have posted afterwards without seeing it, look up /\
-
Yes...I see, I might contact spacies and see what he says as he seems to
be one of the top builders around here & I'm a mere novice.
-
I wasn't understanding the two sticks with one button on one side, and three on the other. Now that I see what you're talking about (and the word Robotron), I get it.

Hey,
Haven't been around for a while.
Here is a better shot of that panel.

I had to build it pretty small because of the size of the cab and yeah, the Inviso button had to be moved otherwise it would be under your right hand. Tthat is not too much of a prob on the uprights because of the angle of your hands but it is a prob on the cocktails.
The panel was fine to play on and 2 player Joust was a bit cramped but definitely still playable.
I forgot to write in the PM that it is covered with plexi.
I use 18mm chrome t-molding. The MDF was 15mm and the plexi 3mm. The slot for the t-molding was offset so when t-molding was applied it was flush with the top of the plexi.
;D

So it started out on a Defender upright...then transfered to the cocktail?
Nice pics ;...I might do a Defender cab after this cocktail project...providing
it turns out good enough.

Yeah, the art was modified (things deleted and moved) to suit the cocktail.
Look pretty sweet now.
There is nothing like a nice new defender cab. I woud recommended them for sure.
Check out Radioactives Defendfer restoration. The best on the net.
