Title: Gameplan Sharpshooter playfield restoration
Post by: ChadTower on August 03, 2008, 05:16:50 pm
Not 100% sure how far I'm going to take this but I'm having some fun with it as a side project at the moment.  This is a playfield I bought from a friend's pile o'parts and gave to my older son for his birthday.  I'm going to clean it up and use it to learn a couple of common restoration techniques, then probably clearcoat it.  Here it is as we first got it.  I have since picked up the missing drop target bank and some new pop bumpers.

Top half almost entirely stripped.  This is after a couple of runs with Novus 2... already showing it's a decent playfield after only a cleaning.  You can still see a little Novus residue I need to wipe off and the camera doesn't like the lighting in that spot.

The only major defect is where the right flipper was misadjusted and tore a groove in the artwork.  There is also some paint loss on the cowboy, probably from balls being shot hard off of the pop bumpers.  There is some ball swirl but it's not terrible.  I will feel free to use the Magic Eraser method on that because of my intention to clearcoat the thing when I'm done.  I haven't decided if I'm going to try and fix that flipper groove or the paint loss on the cowboy.  My colormatch-fu is not strong yet.

Got the mylar patches off... they were small.  A little Goo Gone loosened two of them up enough to pull slowly with very minimal paint coming off.  The third must have dried up long ago since it came up with barely any effort.  No pics because it looks pretty much the same now.
