Title: 32" Monitor

I just picked up an atari showcase cab.  It has a 32" tube left in it that is missing a chassis.  It also has a Hantarex Polino NTSC Decoder in it.  This leaves me to think that this tube could have been a TV and not an arcade monitor? Or just a Hantarax arcade Monitor?  The tube model number is a Philips F272X53 (A8oEEFF272X53)if anyone knows if that helps to solve my first question.
Second- I think I remember reading that regular TVs arent actaully the size they say they are..so meaning if I went out and bought a 32" tv it wouldnt actaully fit in my showcase, is that true? and if so what size TV would I need to buy to replace this tube I already have?  The showcase has Evil Night in it but that is made by Konami, and there are Atari stickers on the cab.(If that somehow helps)

First off the 2 numbers after the A indicate the viewable dimension of the tube diagonaly in cm. In other words when the tube is lit, you measure the actual pictuure from say top lefy to bottom right corners in cm.

Now convert that to inches ny dividing by 2.54 = 31.5 inches.

Now comes the mischief... in the 80's TV marketing groups would measure the tube corner to corner to the outside of the glass. They would have taken your same tube and called it a 33" or perhaps even a 34".

In came the consumer protection group and said this was a no-no thet is why they went to measuring the viewable screen and calling it a 32V.

Anyway chaces are you cabinet is a little frogiving and would take a 32" TV. I say this because I have customers who call me and ask for a 31" or a 34" and we sell them our 32" CGA open frame monitor. Touch wood but we have never had a problem.

Just FYI for other people..
I bought a 32" Sony TV to replace the 32 Hanterax.  The TV tube viewable area is the same however the mounts on the tv tube are 3/4" wider apart.  Also the TV tube is thicker and weighs a ton more.  I just drilled my own holes in the tubes mount to fit the frame.  I got it all installed and looking good.

Im using a RGB to NTSC adapter and S-video cable.  Its not mame and I dont have any classics pcbs to hook up to it sorry..
