Title: Electrocoin Goliath mk3 cab: to bling or not to bling?
Post by: Diewrecked on July 30, 2008, 08:19:31 am
I'm torn.

I am currently converting an Electrocoin Goliath mk 3 cab (the one at the bottom of this link: http://www.electrocoin.uk.com/~electrocoin.uk.com/public_html/goliath/) - mine looks identical. It's in good nick except it didn't have a board in it. Absolutely perfect for MAMEing. Which is exactly what I'm doing (you may have seen my other threads asking questions about this).

My next question is: if you were in my shoes would you bin the sideart and marquee art (and CPO) and go for bespoke? I'm thinking of getting a nice MAME logo marquee on there (the backlight works fine so it would be all lit up and should look wicked), and putting some sideart together comprising characters from my favourite games printed onto bespoke adhesive vinyl (I believe MameMarquees do this?). But then I don't know whether to keep the originals because they're in such good nick (although could do with a rubdown!!)  :dunno  :banghead:

What do you guys reckon?

Thanks all
Jon

Before I looked at the picture... I was going to tell you to keep the original sideart, but that art looks fugly.

Personally, I don't care much for sideart and marquees that use the MAME logo.  Too played out...  come up with something more original.

custom art can get expensive, but it really makes the cabinet special.  I have 3 cabinets right now, but because I am moving, i decided to only keep one of them.  i had a nice twin tigers cabinet with the sideart intact, and a decent dynamo cabinet that was a puzzle fighter cabinet, and then i had my first cabinet which i modified heavily and made my own marquee artwork for.  when it came down to choosing a cabinet to keep, there was never a doubt in my mind.  the one with the custom artwork was hands down my favorite cabinet.   i liked the side art on the twin tigers cabinet, and i loved how easy the dynamo cabinet was to work with, but when it came down to it..I just had a stronger emotional attachment to the other one. ..

so i say go for it...do the custom art.  but i would avoid the generic mame logo stuff...put some effort into it and make it unique...you will be glad you did.
