Okay, Im sure this has been asked a bazillion times, but will an analog flight simulator joustick wirk with the original Star Wars Arcade game?
And if not, what will work if one can not find a yoke?
Someone said a company was going to sell the original SW yoke, but that was 8 months ago when posted, so where can we get these things?

I am assuming you mean to play SW in MAME? If so, I don't see why you couldn't use an analog joystick, though I figure it won't feel "right" of course.
The company you refer to is Ram Controls and it's not happened yet. You can find SW yokes on ebay from time to time. There are also other games that use a similar yoke that is going to be much more authentic feeling than an analog stick.

Well, MAME or not, these things arent just laying around everywhere... I tried 3 different controlers with MAME and the 8 way axis sends it everywhere. Its not playable for me. I slowed down the axis options but it still sucks.
The yokes are different than the average axis and dipswitch controls right?

Oh, and thanks for the reply there Frizzle... The yoke question I asked about a year ago and no one replied. Been stumped all this time...
Apparently, RAM controls is claiming to have Star Wars projects soon to be released. Looks like the yoke, cab and cockpit will be available at some point. Wonder when the last time that page was updated?

RAM Controls has been working on the yoke since 2004 or 2005 and there is no timeline for it. It's been "almost done" for over a year now (just waiting for powder coat is what is claimed). There are many folks who'd love to see them completed.
The yoke is just an analog device. Playing with an analog flight stick would be interesting.

And to stay on topic ... my kids play SW with an analog stick and don't mind at all. Doesn't feel right to me though.

At the risk of being stoned by purists, I've found that a trackball works wonderfully with SW/ESB in MAME, better than an analog joystick in fact. Just invert the Y axis and it's like playing missile command.

I use an analog flight stick for SW (and ESB) and it works great, once tweaked so that you can move the cursor all around the screen in a way that feels natural. I find the challenge/playability to be quite similar to the "real thing," and of course it seems totally natural to fly a spaceship with a flight stick so unless someone actually knew the real SW game they wouldn't know it wasn't supposed to be played with a flight stick anyway! (I am a purist but I have made this concession on my cab because I love SW/ESB and the analog stick really does work.)
