I have a Nintendo Versus sit down cabinet, which still has its original cam locks on it. Unfortunately, I do not have the keys that go with the cam locks. I really do not want to buy new cam locks for it, since I would rather keep the originals. What I am hoping to do is simply buy a key, then alter the locks slightly so that they will use the new key to open.
I know that with barrel locks, you can make them function by removing the barrel, inserting the new key, then filing the pins down flush with the barrel, but these are the kind of locks with keys similar to ones used in bicycle locks, and I am not sure what to do with these ones.
Does anyone know how to get cam locks of this type functioning?

Even though this isn't what you want to hear, drill it out and install a new one. That's your best option. Not expensive to replace.

All Nintendo cabinets (upright or table or tent) use Nintendo standard key number K6510 for the monitor lid and back doors. The cashbox door lock is always keyed individually and is 5/8" long.
I think Arcadeshop or Mike's Arcade sells precut k6510 keys.

Good to hear better options than what I gave! ;D

Ugh. :-\
I've been looking around, and I can not find new cam locks. Well ... I did find one, but it was not what I hoped for.
Searching the net didn't do much for me either. :-[

i got my cam locks at home depot, they sell them as "drawer locks" for bathroom medicine drawers and such. i found them in the safety "baby proofing" isle.

Nope. Already asked them, they do not.

Many game operators probably have tons of extra K6510 keys laying around.

If you can dismantle it, you should be able to get a locksmith to make a key for it or reconfigure the lock for a new key.
However some Chinese-made cam locks are pressed together and can't be dismantled. Good luck!

Takigen still makes these K6510 locks and keys:
