Title: Kester Solder Clearance at Grainger
Post by: scotthh on July 28, 2008, 01:16:02 pm
Grainger is blowing out some Kester Solder (http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/productIndex.shtml) at under $6 per pound. I picked up some "44" (http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/1ZHW8), my local store didn't have any of the "245" (http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/1ZHW3). I've been trying to find a local source for this stuff ever since I picked up a Metcal (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=66275.0) on ebay, because I didn't want to spend $35 to have a pound of solder delivered (http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&Partnumber=370-074).

The caveat is that mine was manufactured in 9/2006, and it doesn't have an infinite shelf-life (http://www.kester.com/en-us/faq/Shelf%20Life%20Policy%20(07OCT04).pdf). I don't know if this is an RoHS (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=77704.0) stock issue or just removal of aging stock.

my guess is that it's a little of both aging stock and RoHS.

Funny that RoHS will probably cause more waste than it prevents...
