Shorten Those Links! (http://bayareaamusements.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=BU-B-12273-4&Category_Code=GS-WW&Product_Count=12)
how exactly does a button work without a spring?
-
Removed by Ginsu Victim, since the link didn't work originally, and my response was dealing with microswitches, not leafs.
-
Link is messed up. You can use a pushbutton without a spring, relying on the microswitch to bounce the button back, it's just not recommended.
its a leafswitch button.
-
Same principle as what Ginsu is talking about -- depending on the game, I'll pull the springs on a leaf button to reduce resistance and my Asteroids actually came that way.

Why is it "not recommended"?
This little trick has been known around here for quite some time. It is "highly recommended" that people try doing this with their buttons if they feel that they are too stiff. This especially holds true with some of those "non-Cherry" switches out there that require high actuation forces.
If you don't like it, then it's not for you. But more than one person has decided not to put the springs back.

Man, you're on ---my bottom--- today...
Anyway, I could see using not spring with a Sanwa switch or other stiff microswitch, but I've tried it with Cherries and it's just a tad too sensitive.
When I said it's not recommended, I meant by me, not the general concensus. I should've made that clear.
-
You can always just snip the spring in half for less resistance, too.

Like the best women, get ones that have a cherry. ;D

appreciate responses, so how do i remove the spring on leaf buttons?
-
It has an e-clip on bottom. Pop that off and the plunger will come out. Just remove the spring and reassemble.

my leafs dont have e-clips. havent seen a leaf with an e-clip before.

Mine do.

is it even possible to remove a spring on a leaf switch without an e-clip.

I'm only familiar with the old school type that had the clips. What do these use to keep the plunger from flying out of the bezel? Is a photo or at least a description of the mechanism possible?
If it looks like squished plastic or a glued on part, then they are most likely sealed so the spring couldn't be removed without ruining them.

as you can see the tip is slightly wider than the shaft and it seems to be glued on, like you said.
