Title: Only display working games, not 7,300 games?
Post by: mark6437 on July 26, 2008, 06:45:48 pm
I am trying to only display the few roms I have in my roms folder. I have about 95 games. I dont wanna display all 7300 or so mame games and have to scroll through all of them. I would like to only scroll through the ones I have installed. PLEASE help!

Thx
Mark

Did you do a search for the answer?  ;)

There is an options button to the right of the rom path on the mala options screen

Yup. I always search for the answer first. The search I did did not come up with the answer though. Then I asked the question. I guess everytime I ask a question I have to say this. Maybe it would be a good idea to put that line in my signature.

About 10 mins after I posted this question I found the option. Just stumbled upon it. Thx for the reply though.

I saw that 'Hide all games' button in the 'Game Lists' tab too, but you're still left with possibly hundreds of ROMs that need to be manually installed in the Destination list.  Is there a way to list all working ROMs that are actually =in= your ROMs folder?

So, what's the solution for loading all working/installed ROMs into the playlist?

Mala Gamelist Editor 1.1 beta could use a filter "Display only working ROMs" in the Gamelist dropdown menu to solve this, which would expedite the 'Source' -> -> -> 'Destination' process.

And a pony.

Actually, I think MaLa comes with a pegasus, so forget the 'pony' feature.

Did you see the solution that Loadman posted in this thread?

Yes, I found that filter nestled in the 'Options' button on MAME Config -> Basics -> ROM Path -> Options (not the 'Game List' tab).  I'm still loaded up with 1000s of 'false' ROMs with only about 20 working ROMs in the folder.

I'll use 'Hide All Games' for now!

Since no one else is having this problem, I'll manually enter my ROMs and this problem might shake out in the next version of MaLa.

Thanks for your help!

The option for "Only Working Roms" is intended to ignore those games that the Mame developers have determined are not yet working.  This is not an option for people whose version of roms do not match their version of Mame.  Since you have 1000s of games that do not work, I believe your rom set does not match your mame version.   No FE checks the validity of roms.  The gui version of Mame, MAMEUI, I think audits roms and of course you can use a rom set manager such as CLRMAMEPRO to audit your roms.  However, its usually easier to just make sure you grab a set of roms that are for the release version of Mame that you are using.
