Title: Know where I can find this MAME cab?
Post by: Bill_S on June 07, 2003, 04:19:07 pm
I'm getting stuff around to build a MAME cab for a friend.
He saw this on and really liked it.
Anyone know what it is, or if plans for it are out there?
He basically wants to build this one.

I don't know if he'll sells the plans for his cabinets.
You can find it here http://www.custom-arcade.com/ (http://www.custom-arcade.com/)

That's ok, I'm sure you can design your own that'd be just as good!

An arcade cabinet is just a very stylized box, after all =P

From the custom arcade website:
78" High x 58" Deep x 48" Wide (with control panel) 32" Wide (w/out control panel)

It does look a lot like the UAII! It has a one piece construction though... if you want that look... UAII might be for you.

78" High x 58" Deep x 48" Wide (with control panel) 32" Wide (w/out control panel)

With those basic dimemsions and the many pics on site you can probably rough out a set of plans fairly easily.  Take a full frontal, a side view and apply the measurements to make your own.

This is true.  Besides, you don't want to look exactly like someone else, do you?  ;)

P.S. It does not look like the UAII, you knuckleheads.  Unless you mean to say "The UAII looks like a Neo-Geo MVS cabiinet", in which case you'd be right.

I said it looked like UAII because he could get those plans. If he e-mails the Neo-Geo folks, do you think they will give him them or evem respond? Just wanted to explain my reasoning.

Thanks guys.  I was thinking the same thing on just make a similar cab based on his dimensions and photos.  I think I could probably make a pretty close copy based on all the info at his web site along with a little time on AutoCAD.  It wouldn't end up being exactly the same even if I had the plans (my cab is a take from the LuSid design, but not an exact copy by any means).
I didn't mention it in my post above because I was afraid the thread would degenerate into people screaming about copyrights, etc.

I did show my friend the UAII cabs and said we could buy those plans.  He liked the one piece look from this custom-arcade cab better, though.

Looks like I'll start messing with the profiles in CAD.
I hope this ACAD project doesn't end up 1/2 done like the cabaret I started a couple months ago based on the Robotron mini (modeled from rough dim's and pics only there, too).  I ended up getting a Pole Position with no monitor to play with for now.  Maybe I'll finish the cabaret next year :)

Thanks for the suggestions!

Regarding the UAII cabinet with it's "2 piece" design... I was wondering if this was based on a real arcade machine?
I don't remember ever seeing an arcade cabinet with the top section as a separate piece like the UAII.
Has anyone seen a picture of something like this (other than the UAII machines)?

Check this thread there is an arcade cabinet picture of a two piece real cabinet.

Hey Guys!

Although I purchased the Dynamo Showcase Cabinet (39" CRT), I did the FULL CP and internals all by myself (sounds like boasting but no one else gets this whole thing!!!) Not just a hobby!

Let me know your thoughts :) I came up with the layout on my own and it wasn't until much later that I realized that it kind of resembles a UA CP..
- waiting to hook up 2 superoffroad steering wheels and analoge pedals (not sure how to do the pedals though)

Next, onto a VMJB wall mount! (this will be modeled after the mameroom unit - his is very cool!)

Talk soon,
