Title: Inkscape Tutorial for Control Panel
Post by: GAtekwriter on July 22, 2008, 11:38:48 am
I've been looking for a way to give back to this community that has answered so many of my questions and provided great feedback.  I'm including a link here for a PDF file I created.  It's a simple tutorial for using the OpenSource application called Inkscape to create a basic Control Panel template (for both drilling and for artwork).

It's a work in progress and I'll certainly try to keep it updated with any corrections, additions, or FAQ - I'm no Inkscape expert but I've slowly become fairly decent at using it by sheer necessity.

I'm hosting it on one of my own websites, but if there's a better way to host it, please let me know.  It's a 2MB PDF in zipped format (no viruses) and in color.

Maybe someone will find it helpful... I used it to create the CP template and CPO seen here.

The file can be downloaded at      http://www.marsbasecommand.com/cptutorial.zip

Very awesome!  Thank you for this.  I will use this on my current build and see how it goes.  I was planning on having Arcade-R-Fun cut my panel, but I've yet to hear back from them with a final CAD file (I know they are backed up, but I haven't gotten an update in weeks).  With your tutorial and Inkscape I think i can pull this off on my own fairly well.

There's a free PDF book that's not too shabby on using Inkscape and it can be found at:

Update:  The web html version is free... print version is $15US

No Starch Press (USA publisher) also has a book coming out late this year that apparently goes very deep with using the free application:  http://www.nostarch.com/inkscape.htm
