Title: Is Gauntlet Dark legacy or legends playable 100% in MAME yet ?
Post by: ctozzi on July 20, 2008, 08:13:22 pm
I love these games and do not have the room in the game room for another dedicated. So does anyone know if either is playable yet 100 % ? I remember about 4 years ago I tried them and they were sooo slooooooow.

I think they are playable..... with a FAST computer.  Check out this thread here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=72776.0

Yes...

I couldn't have said it much better myself, Red.

Maybe added "overclocked and/or on a 64bit OS", but the OP didn't ask for details, and the linked thread includes a link to these other benchmarks (http://mameui.classicgaming.gamespy.com/Bench.htm), which show non overclocked CPUs can do it (on Core2tm with 64bit OS).

Anyway, the answer is yes it's possible to play either at 100%.

I have a Very fast computer (core2 e8400 4.2ghz) and gauntlet does feel sluggish. I don't get slow downs too much, but you can feel that the computer is working its --I'm attempting to get by the auto-censor and should be beaten after I re-read the rules-- off.

I'd suggest trying NullDC, but I only just started researching it yesterday so I'm no expert.  I've found that the Dreamcast version of Gauntlet Legends is a mix of both Gauntlet Legends and Dark Legacy.

I've just finished my medium res cabinet with original Gauntlet Legends hardware, and am already starting to think about selling the PCB set and running MAME/Dreamcast.  Whatever I do, I want to make sure I can still play Gauntlet with 4 players at full speed.

I'd like to know what you decide, and how it works out for you.

wow this is way over my head, i think i'll just wait and buy a dedicated. Seems like too much work to play one game.
