Title: Road Blaster / Daphne question
Post by: rlehm on July 20, 2008, 05:58:46 pm
For those of you who have Road Blaster working in your cabs, can you tell me your work around for file "02.bin." I remember I had this issue before, but can't remember the fix. I have:

01.bin
03.bin
04.bin
05.bin
06.bin
07.bin
08.bin

but 02.bin doesn't seem to exist, or at least I can't find it.

I have been looking for this same exact file for a long time...  I have seen video of it working on YouTube, but never could figure out where to get the necessary file. :(

I've also struggled with this. There are a few versions that rom package floating around the internet. I've tried 2 or 3 versions but had no luck with it. Finally gave up. :dunno

If you figure out something that works, spread the word!

I got it and it works great.

I don't know if I can link to the rom here, due to the rules of the board, but I you can PM me instead.

From the Rules:
5. Nothing illegal! Do I even need to explain this one? Need a ROM to repair an arcade board you own? Fine to talk about. Need a ROM to complete your MAME collection? Don't bother to post here. If someone posts such a request, please don't answer it -- no direct answers, no hints, no private messages.

I thought so.

Anyhoo its complete and works fantastic has all the missing roms you had indicated.

Shame about the rules, but hey its the rules.

Wait..."Need a ROM to complete your MAME collection? Don't bother to post here. If someone posts such a request, please don't answer it -- no direct answers, no hints, no private messages." but we are talking Daphne here not MAME....hmmmm

Dilemma.     :dizzy:   Not!

The only CD/DVD you will find is Sega CD and that was a poor conversion.

There are still NOS Road Blaster kits still out on ebay from time to time.

So much to pay for a 27k file though.  ::)

Here is what I have though:

Location      Device       File ID    Checksum
----------------------------------------------
CPU 14F         2764       00.bin       A2DF  [ main program Ver2.0 ]
CPU 12F         2764       01.bin       9429  [ main program Ver2.0 ]
CPU 15C         2764       02.bin       0089  [ sound program       ]
CPU 3A          2764       03.bin       77F4  [ Character plane A   ]
CPU 4A          2764       04.bin       63DA  [ Character plane A   ]
CPU 6A          2764       05.bin       B630  [ Character plane A   ]
CPU 12A         2764       06.bin       77F4  [ Character plane B   ]
CPU 14A         2764       07.bin       63DA  [ Character plane B   ]
CPU 15A         2764       08.bin       B630  [ Character plane B   ]

You are missing the sound rom, and there is no work around that I know of.

Isn't Road Blasters one that comes with the torrent? I never did a thing but let Daphne handle everything and it works.

ISOs of DL you mean? If so, that would explain it. (Although there are fairly simple ways around this if you want to use your older files.)

the newest (supported) Daphne will update your files for you. Order one of their listed dvd/cds for each game (SA DL1 DL2) and you're set. It will configure everything. Just launch, insert disc, repeat.

yeah but it means always having to insert the disc, would be better to run from the hd.

the files ive got are from few years ago, if i was going to burn do i just leave frame file on hd?

im going to try get it to run from mala. if i get the new files that get downloaded can i jus add them to my files i already have or will it make it look for a cd.

Wrong, you do not need to keep the CD in the drive.  Once Daphne had had its way with them the games will run from the HD.

as stated above, you only insert the disc once. then it sits on a shelf. also, newer versions of daphne do everything for you. it is headache-less; and it's worth the few ebay bucks.

http://www.daphne-emu.com/site3/index_hi.php

Right side box on website.  Download the Daphne 1 Beta.  This is the correct most recent version.

As stated in the box, you need Dragon's Lair, Dragon's Lair 2, Space Ace And Thayer's Quest DVDs (not cds, not pc-roms) of the games.  You only need these discs one time when you intially start these games.  After that Daphne reads them and you will never need to enter use them again (you can then start the games without a game disc in the drive).  There are other laserdisc games you can get for daphne without were you don't need a game disc, examples badlands and super don quiote, etc.  I found out about this when I did a chat at there main forum.

As far as the discs go (DVDs - PS2) - You can get the dragon's lair 20th anniversary special edition ( includes Dragon's lair, Dragon's Lair 2 and Space Ace) direct from the company digital leisure but again make sure you get the DVDs - that are PS2 and xbox compatable and NOT the pc-roms as the pc roms are cds and they will not work with Daphne.  They run about $60 there.  I got mine from a seller on amazon brand new for $20, could also check ebay.  Thayer's quest I got off UK seller from ebay.

Hope this answers your questions.  PM me if if you have any other questions.

Ewww, Badlands is pretty cheese. bd, just read all the stuff over there - including at the forum. Like I hinted above, I use old files on the latest Daphne. Advanced settings. (Ah, but where did I get the files?)

My Road Blaster plays about 30% of the time, my Cliff Hanger runs about 90% of the times it boots up.  Daphne is still a very moody program.

I have a Thayer's Quest DVD but I use the older version of Daphne.  I'd love to find a DVD2DAPH that works with extracting Thayers Quest.

I've had great luck with Road Blaster, but it's less fun with a joystick. Still worth playing, but nothing to write home about

Strange. I think I've had occasional problems with Road Blaster, though I haven't played it in months so who knows what improvements have been made, but never Cliff Hanger that I can recall.

I didn't know it used something else. Hmmm. Can't find a cab pic.
