Title: craigslist score!! ARCH RIVALS, now need help with monitor
Post by: squirrellydw on July 20, 2008, 12:32:36 pm
So I got this TAITO conversion of ARCH RIVALS for FREE off of craigslist and I want to convert it to MAME.  So here are my questions.

1.  I plan on using the AVGA2 card to connect the monitor if I can but it looks like it doesn't have a normal VGA end on it, looks as if it connect to the mother board of the game.  How do I do this?

2. How do I get power to it, again it doesn't have a power plug?

3. I plan on trying to sell the board, marquee on ebay unless someone here wants to buy it.  Any idea what might be a good price.

Everything seems to work with it, and I plan on making look like my cocktail table and Knievel's taito he did.

Nice score.

I don't quite understand question #3. It's ebay. Put it on ebay for .99 cents with a 5 day auction time. Whatever you get, you get. It's all gravy at this point anyhow. I wouldn't expect too much though...

just curious what it might sell for.  Honestly if I only get $10 I don't think it is really worth it.

I will sometimes sell stuff on ebay even if I know it means breaking even or even taking a $1-$2 loss. Why?
A. you could be helping someone find something they need
B. You would otherwise have to pay the garbage man to take it

Congrats on the free cab!

Of course it won't be worth it. But, whats your other options? Hold on to it forever, or throw it away? Like Donkey Kong is saying, it's cool to pass along arcade stuff to other people in the hobby.

Imagine if the person who GAVE AWAY that cab to you had decided it would just be easier to throw it away, or burn it. Someone out there would like the board and marquee.

I don't want my other posts to come off wrong.

This was a great score. All I'm suggesting is you pass along the parts you won't need to someone who could need them. It may not be a huge financial score, but there is a good feeling attached with helping someone out with their project.

Perhaps you can find someone who can make a trade for something you need.

I don't plan on throwing it away, I just hate going though the hassel of posting something them mail it for harldly any money.  I will post it on ebay or probably craigslist first.  Don't worry lew you didn't come off wrong.

Now, can anyone help me with question 1 and 2?  That is really what I need to know.

I would rearrange the priority. First get power to it, and see if the monitor works and is worth saving.

I won't be of much assistance with the power. I would be more inclined to give away all the guts, and drop in a 19" LCD or CRT. Good luck - it's a great looking cabinet.

I think you missed understood me,  it does work, the entire games works.  Monitor picture is pretty good.  My questions is how do I hook it up to a PC using the AVGA card?  I think I need an adapter but not sure, also how do I plug it in to get power to it when I connect it to the PC, I don't see a power plug?

I believe your cab is going to be Jamma wired, in which case there will be a long edge connector that hooks up to the board.  If that is the case, then you will want a JPAC in addition to your Arcade VGA to get video.
The Arcade VGA will have a video plug going to the JPAC and the JPAC will connect to the JAMMA harness.

Im not sure what you mean by it doesn't have a power plug if the entire game works?

The game has a power plug but I don't see a separate one for the monitor.  I will take a picture of the inside when my battery is charged.

Thats the cabinet power plug,  The game itself is just a PCB.  It sounds like your cabinet is jamma wired so you should be set with a JPAC + Arcade VGA

IIRC Arch Rivals isn't JAMMA.  The hardware is similar to Xenophobe, which *definitely* isn't JAMMA.

Leave the wiring to the monitor alone.  I'm betting the farm that the monitor in there requires an isolation transformer.

As for the monitor input, likely you'll need a video amp to boost the signal.  So you'd need an Arcade VGA and a video amp.

Peale, you are right.  I just saw that it said requires a isolation transformer.  I have no idea what it is though.  Here are some pictures.  If you notice in the 2nd and 3rd pic there is a gray wire, that looks like the only one that is coming out of the monitor.  The 3rd pic shows where it is connecting to.  So I think ultimarc sells what I need for the monitor right.

So do I just connect this to where the monitor is plugged into the motherboard?

Anyone know what game the bezel is from? I don't think it's original to Arch Rivals unless it's a conversion bezel.

Would you be willing to sell just the bezel? Or perhaps scan it? It's needed for the MAME Artwork Project.  (http://www.mameworld.net/mrdo/mame_artwork.html)

Back to my question two post above with the pictures of the monitor.  Where would I find the make and model and will I be able to run windows on it OK or should I buy a new 19" monitor and what one?

Thanks

The isolation transformer is the large transformer on the floor of the cab.

So do I just connect the videoamp to the plug on the monitor and the monitor plug is the one connected to the motherboard with the gray wire correct?
