What spinner are you using and what do you set the sensitivity at for Tempest?
I'm using a Tornado spinner and I set the sensitivity at 150. It seems to be the balance between skipping paths and being able to easily roam the board.

As a matter of fact, I use a tempest spinner! ;D And I haven't found any need to muck with the analog settings. The default settings seem fine to me, though I don't exactly play it all the time.

From our wiki page (http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Spinner_Turn_Count), looks like 150% is correct for the tornado:
72 teeth original / 48 teeth tornado = 1.5 = 150%
The extra notes on tempest included info you can use to verify if 150% is like the original (1 rotation of spinner = x movement in game.)

HM. I don't remember the original having such travel...but of course it might've, just didn't have the same spin time - which is why I think I might prefer the Tornado. I would like to get some time on an original though, just to check it out.

I'm using the TT2 from Groovygamegear, i use these settings :
Stock settings in MAME of:
Digital Dial speed- 20
Dial Reverse - Off
dial sensitivity - 100%
Not sure if i can improve it, I really don't play this game, more of an arkanoid person

Tron spinner with default settings.
Don't want to know if I should change it as it feels right. :P

A tron spinner CANNOT feel right for tempest! I have one of each and they have a tremendously different feel to them. I know, you meant in terms of the analog settings, but I just had to jump on that because there is such a stark contrast between the 2 spinners.

Perhaps I used the wrong word. "Feel" isn't as accurate as "seems". It seems to work well so I don't worry about it.
Better? ;)

WHEW. That's high. I have a TT2 (that I've played with but haven't mounted permanently in anything) and I have to turn the sensitivity down to like 7.

That's what I thought you meant. I'd be intererested in trying that out just to see.

I'm using a TT2 set to 6% sensitivity, at 100% it's barely playable and certainly not authentic. With a real Tempest knob you move about 5 steps with a 360 deg spin so keep dialing down that sensitivity until you hit that sweet spot.

I completely misread that at first :)
Yes, don't even try 100%. That's almost 17x the res of the original control. 6% will give you perfectly authentic control for Tempest.
