Title: 30 minutes? - no problem.....
Post by: Ummon on July 18, 2008, 11:02:33 pm
Has anyone else noticed  that something it seems should take minutes always takes hours?

Well, I've noticed somethings that should take half a second (figuring out what a thread is about for instance) take long enough that I just give up... :dunno

Where I work (currently - only until the 31st of this month), day = week, week = month, and month = year.

Its amazing.  I was asked how long a small mod to a project would take; my answer was a day (padded from a couple of hours).  They scheduled 4 WEEKS!

 :dunno

Well, you know, corporate.

In any case, for those who maybe didn't get it, I meant like you sit down to a project and think 'oh yeah, this'll take a half hour....'   Three hours later you're not done because this didn't wanna work, or that didn't work, or this cropped up...etc, etc, etc. I've just accepted that it's likely something will be at least a factor of 10 over what I think it'll be. If I get done early, hurray.....if I don't get it done, I just go do something else. Like play some vids!

Yeah, but really, when you have to use a hand crank to start your innertubes, shouldn't you EXPECT it to take so darned long? ;)
