Title: Quick question
Post by: 1speedster1 on July 17, 2008, 12:00:59 pm
would a nintendo single monitor cabinet with the monitor intact be worth $225.  It was stated to be in good condition and the monitor was just capped.  I plan to convert it into (suprise) an original Donkey Kong.  I am considering picking it up on Saturday.

Any input is appreciated greatly.

Any art, control panels, wiring, or boards?

hmm... $225 seems steep if you'll have to replace everything. If you found a DK in similar shape with everything that has only in DK art, I would go for it. This one seems like its too high priced for what you are wanting to do with it.

Is it local?

Does it play?  Are cabs hard to find in your area?  I bought a nonworking nintendo cab for $40.

$225 sounds a bit high to start on a DK project, but if it is worth it to you, that is all that matters.  Keep in mind that bezel, marquee, side art, controls, pcb... This stuff can add up to over $400.  I know, I need them all.

Let us know what you decide.

You "can't" convert it into a Donkey Kong, a Playchoice 10 is a whole different beast:

I'd look for another Nintendo cab. They seem to be higher in number than bad mortgages overthere....

Level42 is right. With a Playchoice 10, you'd be paying 225.00 and be able to reuse the cab and monitor only (if converting to DK). You'd have to replace everything else...wiring harness, power supply, coin door, artwork, pcb, and also you have to rewire the receiver harness for the CP or BUY a replacement...etc etc. And then the artwork, paint...you're looking at alot of additional cost added to the 225.00 base investment.

Is there a PC10 to Jamma adapter? You go that route and install a 48-1 or 60-1.

If there is a PC10 to Jamma adaptor, then you can get an adaptor for a DK board to plug into the Jamma setup.

$225 is a bit high for what you are getting, but what else is available in your area?  If the monitor is good, that's worth a good portion of your cost.  I wouldn't have a problem with you paying this much, but you can probably do better.

Was there only the double monitor playchoice? I swear I just about bought one in a nintendo cab that was a single monitor. Or was it like Neo Geo in the sense that there was a "single slot" Playchoice system, but the 10s needed a second monitor?

There must have been a single screen version, since I have seen a Playchoice 10 bartop once.

Yes...there is a single screen Playchoice-10...

This is the dedicated single monitor...

...but people also put them in DK/DKJr cabs,  but not too often.  If it's this cab you're looking at,  it won't look anything like a dedicated DK or DKJr when you're done.

Thanks all, I think I will wait.

Well thats what I thought. I bought a several-times converted Galaga that had what looked like a  playchoice CPO under a generic Strata overlay, but I wasnt sure it was in fact a PC CPO...

BTW: good choice. It may take a while, but you'll find something that will make you glad you passed up this high priced cab...
