Title: Ultimarc IPAC 4 issue
Post by: deadsoulz on July 17, 2008, 11:48:55 am
My Player 1 and Player 2 buttons work perfect every time, but sometimes the 3 and 4 buttons go weird on me and stop working properly and they only come back to there setting if I shutdown and remove power from my computer(ipac) for a second and boot back up.  Anyone seen this before?  I am using the Ps/2 version.

Can you elaborate on "go weird on me" and "stop working properly"?

Sure.. heheheh If you look at the ipac when this is happening (a pain because I have to take my cabinet apart)  The Green light on the second half of the ipac goes off.  And the behavior is all the buttons send multiple keyboard inputs,, which none of them are what I programmed it for.

Is that any clearer?  Its kinda hard to explain.

Hmm and this is only intermittent?  Or all the time?  Also you said it was only player 3 and 4 before, but are you saying it's every button?  Assuming you have ruled out faulty wiring/grounds/connections, I would definitely start with an email to Andy at ultimarc.  He is very responsive with technical support.

Yeah its all buttons on the second half of the IPAC(P3,P4 buttons), I have checked my ground many times to try and see if one is loose or something, but I can't find one, unless the 2nd ground on the ipac itself is faulty.

I had this same problem with my ipac-4 , only with players three and four only it would not only be player 4s buttons but his stick as well, after unplugging it etc it works properly for awhile and then did it again, I never got the problem solver, I don't use that panel its in the garage now, I just have a 2 player ipac 2 machine and its been fine. Would be interested in hearing what solution you find.

I think its a problem with the ipac software or something cause sometimes I would open the software and click Program and it would say cannot program or something, so I would unplug it a few times until it excepted the programming and then it would work for a while and have to do it again

I just started having this same problem last night. Were you able to find a solution?

I can't say wether its fixed 100% or not, but its not done it for me in a while, I found one of my cherry switches was the problem, it was stuck down, and I think it was constantly bombarding the IPAC P3/P4 side until it finally just freaks out.  Open up your WinIPAC software and see if any of your switches are stuck or get stuck when you press them.  Also double check your grounds.

I got it working by unplugging the cable from the I-pac and then plugging it back in and then rebooting. I hope this doesn't become a regular problem.

Thanks

Andy has a great trouble shooting guide on his web page.  You plug in a keyboard and open notepad to do some tests. Works great and tells you where the problem is.   That would be my first step.

http://www.ultimarc.com/ipac2.html

Towards the bottom is the troubleshooting.

This is what I used to have to do and unfortunately it was recurring, however that does fix it everytime
