I've been wondering this for a while. There are a lot of games that are emulated in mame that are also emulated in other currently active emulators like FB Alpha, ZiNC, etc.
I'm wondering what emulators people use as an alternative to mame, and why?
For example, is there an emulator that runs all, say, Neo Geo games better and with more accuracy?
Are there emulators that more faithfully reproduce gameplay? Look better? Run games at a speed that MAME doesn't, etc?
I know there's some (Model 2 Emulator, Zinc) that run games much faster than MAME.. I'd like to get an idea though of the best arcade emulators for Arcade systems/games to make the best, most complete emulation experience possible on my cabinet.
Anyone have input?
Note, if we can get a good list of the alternatives and reasons, I'll post it all to the WIKI

I use winKawaks or Kawaks for CPS-1, CPS-2, and the Neo Geo. Why because its damn accurate and fast.
Zinc for anything 3d that is supports. Why because nothing else touches it.

that's an easy answer but I'm not sure how one would go about saying it diplomatically 8)~ Mame is Mame and playing the games is a side benefit :>
most of the other emulators dont treat playability or enhancements (filters etc) as a evil stepchild :> its usually one of their main focuses .. so in allot of cases weather its hardware issues (lower sys requirements ) or just plain better performance as long as your willing to sacrifice some "accuracy " for playability, or want special features.

is actualy a pretty good recomendation list IMHO.
Right now im just finishing up setting up Zinc in my system why ? cause for the games it suports its still Plays better than mame in most cases, yea its not 100% hardware accurate but thats not my priority.
ive heard the same about raine and kawaks but havent tried them yet since i havent had an issue with the few neogeo fighters i have in my cab.
next up is giving model 2 and system 3 emus a try and mabey ordering a dragons lair dvd so i can try daphne.

Right. I'm not necessarily concerned with 100% hardware accuracy.
I'm looking at this from a playability aspect.

Good place to check also is the NonMAME site @ http://nonmame.retrogames.com/
Also if you want to know what console systems play better than MESS try their sister site @ http://nonmess.retrogames.com/

I run all oldies and Darius 1 and 2 in an old MAME version (MacMame 0.103). Much of the old ROMS needed extra files in the zips to work on newer MAME's (MameOSX 0.124), where they worked perfectly on old MacMAME. And Darius works on a single screen in MacMAME. In the newer version only display 1 (of the 3) is showed. MameOSX is prefered for Streetfighter 2+ etc as those run full speed in the Intel compiled Mame OSX.

I like Kawaks for CPs1/2 and Neo-Geo...HOWEVER it balks at half the Roms I have that worked fine in other emulators. Kinda frustrating.
