Title: Maximus Arcade question. 640X480 hurts my eyes, need to run at 640X240, HOW?
Post by: vetteguy112233 on July 13, 2008, 08:16:33 pm
Whenever I run my cabinet (P4 2.9GHz, Win XP, 1GB ram, ArcadeVGA) at 640X480 it has a certain flicker that eventually gives me a splitting headache (windows xp and games), if I change it to 640X240, it looks good and doesn't give me a headache.

I've recently switched to Maximus Arcade and it's default setting is 640X480, which I just can't take the headache anymore, does anyone have any suggestions?

But Maximus is perfect other than this one issue. Even in Mamewah at 640X480 it does the same thing, so it's not necessarily the Front End, it's my cabinet. I was just hoping that there might be something someone knows of.

With Mamewah's layout editor, you can set the resolution to pretty much whatever you want.

All front end in 640x480 on a 15khz arcade monitor will flicker.

If you have a ArcadeVGA or you use Soft 15hz.  you can manage to use resolution of 640x288 (or less) . In that case it won't flicker.

Mamewah , mala  and AtomicFe at least can work in 640x288 .

If Maximus can not ,  the only choices you have are :

Do a skin with dark color (not White!!!) to see less flickering.

Or change your monitor to have a 31khz one.

Or Change your front end.

On a 15khz monitor or TV , all vertical resolution above  288 point will flicker anyway.  Because your screen can not display more line. If you force to display more, it will be interlaced and will flicker.

Nice.  This is a great set of updates to MA.  Nice to see this monitor resolution support added.  For me though, the nest is it fixes the WinKawaks exit routine!  Hell yes.
