Title: AVGA + resolution problem with some games.
Post by: deadsoulz on July 13, 2008, 04:25:06 pm
ArcadeVGA  + a few problem games.  I don't recall Street Fighter 2 / CPS1/2 games being widescreen in the arcade, but when I use Arcade VGA and the avres tool to select resolutiosn automatically It comes out widescreen looking, bars on top and bottom.  Also I can't seem to get a proper resolution for Robotron.  The bottom is always cut off.  Mortal Kombat is a bit tricky as well, any hints would be great.

Have you tried to change the aspect ratio from by pixel or 4:3?

What exactly do you mean?  You meain in AVGAinst change from pixel to proportionate?  I am still debating on maybe selling the arcadevga2 pcie and running something with some more 3d acceleration power and running all my games at 640x480, but there is something to be said about the original look/feel the avga can give the game.

That should be a digital monitor - meaning it saves geometry settings between modes. Hence, adjust accordingly. (It should also be capable of 800x600, hence it's a quad sync.) You may also find out that games of different resolution will share the same mode on your monitor. You'll have to play around with resolutions and geometry settings. It seems most people make the assumption that things are simpler than this - ie: one mode for these, one mode for those, etc, etc, etc. It doesn't generally work that way, for the reason that there are different resolutions, different modes a monitor is capable of (which differs between makes), and combinations of the two when setting up numbers of games. There should be a disclaimer in the wiki perhaps.
