Title: Cadillacs and Dinosaurs themed cab
Post by: jban4us on July 09, 2008, 12:20:23 am
Hey guys, I am currently building a cab and trying to decide on a theme. As it is a 4 player cab, I am thinking it would be cool to do a cadillacs and dinosaurs theme, but it seems to be hard to find the artwork. I was thinking a green cab with either yellow, green or black t-molding (ordered samples from t-molding.com). I saw a marquee on ebay the other day and am now beating myself up for not buying it. So before I put a ton of effort into this, I have a few questions:

Would it be lame to do a MAME cab C&D themed if it is not dedicated or shaped like the original (mine is based off of the Project Arcade book)?

Would a "custom" C&D marquee be generally frowned upon if I can't find an original or a repro?

I'm also thinking about trying to vectorize a few of the comic book covers for side art. I know there are no rights or wrongs in this as long as I am satisfied, but I just thought I'd get a few opinions.

If you are making your own cabinet there are no real rights or wrongs. If you do a good job, and make it look the way you want it to then you are right. As far as a theme, I have been unable to find anything other then one photo on google images of a conversion I think.

As far as rights are concerned I really would not worry about it. If you are using this in your own home would you feel bad photocopying something out of a book and putting it on your wall? There are guys around here that have used tons of technically copyrighted matereal, but considering that they are just using it to decorate their machine and not selling it there is really no harm. If you were going to try and sell this as an authentic cabinet then I think you may run into issues, but that is about it.

Would it be lame to use the the of the original, not necessarily. Are you going to do a lame job, or a good one? This is all a creative relm and everyone here just makes stuff that looks cool to themselves, it just so happens that it ends up looking good to everyone else.

Just take your time and it will turn out as good as you can make it. Just have fun and don't worry what other people think about your work. Have fun

Please do this! C&D is probably my favourite arcade game ever. Its definitely the one that ate most of my 20p's.  :)

Waveryder started working on some custom C&D artwork. If you ask him he may be willing to carry on with it if he hasn't already.

This screams generic dynamo with c&d but heck I don't know. It looks like a generic cab to me :dunno
