Title: Slot Cutters In Canada
Post by: mattnb on July 07, 2008, 07:13:17 pm
Having the hardest time getting a 1/16" bit and arbor in Canada. No hardware stores locally sell them, and it costs a fortune to order them in. I decided to look online. Lee Valley doesn't appear to sell them, tmolding.com is out of stock, most places in the states want over $20 to ship the things, so I ask;

Where have you gotten this bit in Canada? (for a decent price)

I'm not in Canada, but I got my bits from Holbren (http://www.holbren.com) (in Florida) after a recommendation on this board, and I too would recommend them. According to  their shipping terms, (http://www.holbren.com/pages.php?pageid=3) they'll charge you whatever the USPS charges them. USPS (http://ircalc.usps.gov/default.aspx?Mode=Intl_Single&CID=10054) charges $8.56 for a two pound First-Class Mail International Package. An arbor and a bit shouldn't even weigh a pound (which should drop the shipping to under $5).

$19 for the bit and arbor and $8 for shipping! Thanks for the recommendation! Finally I can put my cabinet together, the pieces have been laying on the floor of the garage for over a week.

I'm in Edmonton and couldn't get it locally as well, I ended up ordering from mlscwoodworking.com. 2 years ago this cost $16 for the slot cutter + arbor and $10 for shipping. Not cheap, but it is done and I'll never need another I'm sure.

 I find that kinda strange that you can't buy certain woodworking tools in
 Canada...I mean theres plenty of timber there isn't there?

 Just a thought.
