Title: My Mortal Kombat 2 "Reconditioning" Project

Hello fellow arcade enthusiasts!

I've been an avid reader (lurker) of these forums for over 4 years since I came across this site while doing research when I built my first MAME cab.  My interest in the hobby faded for a few years while I got married and started a family, but was recently re-ignited when I watched "The King of Kong".

I recently decided I needed a summer project; something to work on in my garage while drinking a Heineken and listening to the Detroit Tigers =)  I decided that I would restore an arcade game for the first time, and after a week of searching I found a low-risk, low-cost candidate.

I purchased a non-working Mortal Kombat machine that was not in an original MK cabinet.  I have begun work on this project and invite you to see what I've done so far by visiting my blog at http://chadsprojects.blogspot.com

I appreciate any and all feedback, positive or negative (just keep it work and kid safe).

looks pretty good, if your gonna "restore" it to MKII the button layout is fine, if youre gonna mame it, youre gonna limit the number of games you can play

Great project!  I can't wait to see what it looks like as a "dedicated" conversion cabinet.  Should be pretty cool.  I'm definitely looking forward to updates.  Good luck!

This is real weird... You have a Williams cab there, and I see the Stargate stencils on it, but it actually looks like a Robotron cabinet. The Stargate had wider sides that didn't cut back towards the monitor between the marquee and control panel.
That is the reason the Stargate art didn't really even fit on the sides.

Is there a Williams tag on the back of this? I'm wondering if you got a factory oddball because it seems weird for someone to convert a Robotron to a Stargate. They're of the same era.

I think someone cut that profile out of the original Stargate cab, but I could be wrong.  I did not find a Williams tag anywhere on the machine.
