I'm getting ready to order the GGG 3" ICE trackball for my Wood Control Panel.
I'm confused on the mounting options to use that is on the GGG site.
There is a Super High Trackball Install Kit - Electric Ice-T and Imperial (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=74&products_id=315)
And a
Trackball Mounting Kit - 3" (http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=74&products_id=314)
if i get the Install Kit.. do i need the mounting kit. Or should I just get both?

The two options are mutually exclusive. The mounting plate is the old standby, which is probably the simplest install, but will give you a standard ball-height and a big square plate on your panel. The "Super High Install Kit" is a bit more involved, but has the benefit of a much higher ball, and only a small circular bezel visible on your panel.

Randy,
Can you tell us the differences in height between the balls when mounted with the standard mounting plate vs. the super high install kit? I am considering the super high install kit as it does not need a mounting plate but am not sure how much it will stick out? Can the amount that it sticks out be adjusted by using washers or spacers?

The apex of the ball is very close to 1" above the actual panel surface with the "Super High" install kit. A standard trackball apex is about .575" above the panel surface.

Yes, but the drawback would be that the ID of the finishing ring would then be too large. A better answer would probably be "yes, but you probably won't want to once you see / feel it" ;) Also, keep in mind that the finishing ring actually reduces the overall visible height of the ball by about 1/8".
