I am going to have to figure out how to make myself visable :)
BTW, where are you guys coming from, Jimjim and I are driving up from fresno

I'm the one going with Circo. Even though most of the games are emulated in Mame, it is cool playing them in there original glory. Last year I really dug the atmosphere with the big televisions linked together playing 80's videos. I also liked playing games that Mame cabinets are not usually set up to play like Warlords. Then of course you have the prototype games like Beavis and Butthead, Primal Rage 2, etc...
Last year I really got into pinball there. I ended up later buying a Simpson's Party Pinball after spending some time on one. I also loved the Medieval Madness. Someone brought a Big Bang Bar to the show, knowing the rarity and value I didn't want to ask to play it. I would say that the pinball collection assembled is probably one of the nicest on the West Coast. (I've never been to the Pin a Go Go show they have in Dixon, so I can't really compare.)
Quick story, last year Circo and I went to the Super Auctions next door. Circo was checking out all the Japanese type pinball machines they had for sale. Needless to say, he picks up a Thunderbirds Japanese pinball. The thing is bright and loud. After we bring it back to his house and he sets it up in the game room, he puts in the hundreds of little steel balls and fires it up. The thing is blasting out loud clips and saying from the show with whistles and every other noise you can think of. His wife walks in and gives the classic WTF look. The whole thing reminded me of the leg lamp scene from the Christmas Story. The look of pride on his face for his new purchase, versus her look of disdain was priceless.
Anyways, can't wait for this year. Circo is bringing his camera. He is bringing his nephew and I'm bringing mine who is a big console gamer. I'm sure the younger generation is going to have fun, but It'll also be a history lesson for them.

I hope I'll be there. I'll know more soon but if I make it, I'm wearing my DK shirt.
Love to hook up if we could.

I'm going on both days. Last year I brought my daughter who lost interest around 6pm so we went home early. This year, I'm doing both days all day, probably only taking a break to go take a nap in the car.
I look like this, but 20 pounds lighter and probably wearing a black Nine Inch Nails shirt and shorts. Answers to Fred:

One word of caution: Chicago is expensive! :badmood:
Expo is the pinball event to attend, plus you get to tour the Stern factory!

San Jose?!? That's practically right next door.
I'm going to have to figure out whether I can shuffle some time around in order to go.
My chances of going... I'll probably have a better chance at winning the Lotto. :(
-
I'm in Santa Clara, so it IS next door. ;D
Love these events, but I'm sure dead after a whole day. They're like Disneyland, leaving feels as good as coming in.

*BUMP*
WOO HOO, just a few more hours!!!
-
Thought I should bump this as it is tomorrow. my name badge will say Jeremy - Emumovies and I may even have some freebees on me ;)
hope to meet some fellow BYOACers this year, I am about 5' 10" with auburn hair. I should probably post a pic huh?
-
I'll be there with Jeremy (Circo). He just told me to help make it easier, you can also find me and I'll distribute some of his freebees. I'll be wearing a red Fresno state bulldogs shirt with a Jim F nametag. I'm 6'2", 260 with dark brown hair. I'll be playing a lot of pinball. (Kind of my thing lately - hoping the new Batman is there).
Last year Jeremy cut his index finger nail too short and he pulled up lame on some of the games. (At least that was the excuse I was hearing all the way home.) ;) This year, I'm sure he will be gunning for me.
Anyways, I hope to meet some of the people who post here. It's not to often you get to talk and meet people that are in this hobby.
-
I'll be wearing a Donkey Kong shirt with a depiction of the first level printed on the front. Fred on nametag. Here's a bad pic of me.

Just spent 13 hours playing countless pinballs and video games. Met Frizz, Circo, and Jimjim. Heading out for day 2. Maybe this time I can play some Indiana Jones, Star Wars, or Revenge from Mars. They were occupied for the entire day and I hate waitint in line :D. Finally got a chance to play all the pins in Pinball Hall of Fame: Williams Collection except for Pinbot, Gorgar and Jivetime. Taxi is beautiful in person. i was really impressed with how good Centaur looks in person, it's just beautiful. Played F14 Tomcat, Big Bang Bar, Cactus Jack, Nascar, The Machine (Pinbot 2) and World Cup for the first time and really liked them. Probably my favorite of the night was Attack from Mars. Great pin, fun, fast, and full of toys.
There was also a demo of Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix. Lets just say that I've gotta hack an Xbox 360 controller and get an Xbox 360 in my cab. That thing was beautiful. Well, I"m outta here. Got another 10.5 hours to go :applaud:

Twas a cool expo. Really enjoyed Jeff Kulczycki's talk about the making of Donkey Kong 2 and Aaron Giles' talk about MAME. Props to whomever brought Congo Bongo. I was looking forward to playing Super Zaxxon for the first time on actual hardware, but I couldn't find it.
-
Aaron did have a curious little slip about the future of 3D acceleration and mame during his talk, it was a small one with no details but has me thinking hmmmmmm. I guess we will eventually find out what that was all about ;)

It's on the radar probably because somebody's submitted code for it. It's going to happen eventually. Games entering the codebase are getting more and more complex with 3D and 3D acceleration so using the PC's GPU is like the 800 pound gorilla in the room. All that number crunching power in those GPUs sitting there unused, and the precedent was already set by making MAME Multi-threaded for multi-CPU core support. Just takes one developer to work on it to get it going.
But what do I know?, I don't know a pointer from an array. :D

I guess it's officially DK2 now (instead of D2K). I would've liked to have heard Aaron's talk. I guess I'll have to settle for his blog, though.

Here's a video I put together yesterday.

It's full of pins, my current obsession :D. It's funny though. You can spend two whole days at the place and still not play everything. Was awesome. Can't wait for next year.
-
Soooooo, will we ever see a DK2 release either rom or retail?

Mspaeth claims he has it running on MAME already. When he mentioned it at mameworld he got schlagged...evidently the powers that be have determined that D2K isn't an arcade game and should be in MESS not MAME.
