I've been using Mala for nearly a year and love it. When I first installed Mala I think I remember that there was some way to bring up a list of filter categories in an overlay box on the main UI (not in Options) such that I could see (for example) only the vertical shooters. Now I can't find how I did that. In the Options area I've found the GUI->Filter screen and I can make and save lists there but how do I bring up the list of filters and select between them while on the main UI? If I remember correctly I was even able to navigate through the filter list to sub-categories right in the main UI.
I've been able to get everything else working in Mala (even advanced stuff like RGB LED button animation) but I've goofed around with the filters and I've searched through the wiki but this (probably very simple thing) is somehow eluding me and I'm ready to concede defeat and ask for help...
Thanks in advance for any pointers...

Have a look in options-controllers and see what key you have set for bring-ing up the menu.

Yep, that was it. The key got undefined. Like I said, very simple.
Thanks Loadman, you rock!

I am having the opposite problem, but I thought it was related. so I tagged onto this thread. When I launch MaLa, my gamelists appear, but when I click on a gamelist, instead of the games in that list appearing, a list of filters appears (Control, Genre, Manufacturers, Players, Years). When I select one of those filter choices(e.g., year) a list of the choices within that filter appears. along with the choice "one level up". I have checked the configuration (Options>Controller) but cannot figure out what is wrong. Note - game was working as expected, but kids were playing, hacking on buttons, and all of a sudden I ended up with this problem. I expect it is simple, but I cannot figure it out. Would appreciate any help.

Yeah you would have something allocated wrong in controllers for sure.
Check all the tabs and make notes or look at the settings in mala.ini
Probably the same key allocated for two jobs.
