I'm planning on using two 8-way Ultimarc J-stiks with oval/bat tops on my new build. I have read that they are a bit short and I may need to route a recessed area under the CP so they stick out far enough. Is this true? Can I just mount straight on the bottom with a 3/4" thick board or do I need to use a router? If I must route how thick should the recessed area be?
This will be for an all-purpose MAME cabinet with an emphasis on fighters and shooters, so I wanted a nice tight and precise joystick. Thought about going for a Happ competition, but it sounds as if everyone prefers the j-sticks for fighters/shooters.
TIA :)

Just get the longer shaft. I'm using balltop U360s with the standard shaft mounted under 3/4" (5/8" wood, 1/8" plexi) and they're fine to me, but some people might want longer.

I thought the longer shafts were only available for the ball top J-stiks and U360s, not the bat style J-stik. Am I wrong? I can't find anything to say otherwise on Ultimarc's website.
I dunno now. I may end up going with the "old" Happs Comps made by iL (who oddly enough makes the T-stik for Ultimarc).
Anyone else have thoughts? Anyone route the bottom out for a J-stik?

No, I'm wrong. I assumed they had the longer shafts for those as well.

Maybe I'll just get ball tops. Agggh, too many decisions! :banghead:

Maybe you could get the extra long balltop shaft, then replace the ball with bat using the adapter sold here.

Another thing where I know it works for the U360, but not sure about the J-stik.
