Title: Warehouse full of arcade cabs that are for sale
Post by: R.P.D rookie on June 24, 2008, 05:50:56 pm
Hello, I'm normally a resident of www.shoryuken.com.  I've ventured here to let those of you interested know a whole warehouse full of cabs is for sale.  I've talked to a mod here on the forum and after discussing it with him, I decided to post this up.  Most of this is pretty much copy and pasted from my original thread.  The original reason I even started coming here was because I got a cab from this guy, however due to the fact that I am moving within little over a month's time, I can't take the cab with me.  However, I decided I'd help this guy get some of these (if not virtually all) of his arcade cabs, boards, etc; sold.

Alright, this is the same place where I got my cab from for cheap.  It's located here in Mobile, Alabama.  These are just sitting around and need to move.  They're all up for grabs.  Local pickup only, more than likely.

The man who owns this warehouse full of arcade cabs needs them gone.  No, you can't just have them for free but the prices should be pretty good.  He's given me the go ahead to post them up.  As I'm a loyal member to srk first, srk gets first grabs at these before I start posting them up on other sites.  There's quite a few cabs as you can see so I'll be updating this as I can.  I took over 150 pictures today but won't be crashing srk with all of them.  His name is Doug.

Title: various other things in the warehouse
Post by: R.P.D rookie on June 24, 2008, 05:59:05 pm
That's about it for modern beat em ups that srk might like.  Everything else is classic stuff.  More shots of cabs, a lot you can't see what they are.  I'm not even sure what all is in here still, some cabs have to be moved out of the way to get to others.

They don't make them like this anymore.  "Has a leather clutch!", Doug says with excitement when the pincher drops down to pick up a stuffed animal.

Title: SOLD!!!
Post by: R.P.D rookie on June 24, 2008, 06:00:37 pm
Game is SOLD!  One person picking this one up with two in line should he back out.  Whoever it is has also bought Pleiades.

This thing is a time capsule.  Utilized X-Y screen (I got lossed in the tech talk after that part), that no matter the brightness of the enviroment you can see the screen clearly.  The fanatics on the other forums will probably go nuts over this one more than anyone ever would on here but I figured I'd post it anyway.

GAME IS SOLD!

Title: Moon Alien 2
Post by: R.P.D rookie on June 24, 2008, 06:03:06 pm
Did not write down what he said he wanted for this one but I assume it's like Pleiades for $100 or maybe even less!  He's got 4 of these "Astro Combat" cabs.  What I mean by that is well.....they're all the same cab design but with different games inside.  Moon Alien is basically Galaga, as it has the same layout, music and everything else.  In fact, I'm not even sure why this is called Moon Alien but I couldn't tell the difference from Galaga.

In the pic below you can see where the circuit board is easy access on the right side.  Just slides right out.

Side shot, pretty compact compared to some of the other stuff in there.

I don't think I have a pic but the cab is exterior wise perfect, it's just in those pictures, Doug opened up the top of the cab to show me the simplicity of working on it, should a problem every occur.

Nostalgic pinball machine from the early 90's.  In perfect condition except for a baseball button which is missing.  Dispenses baseball cards from the 80s when your game is over depending on how high your score was.  This thing holds at least a couple thousand cards.  Can be programmed in 20 different languages and excepts multiple currencies.  Don't need that if you put it on free play though!

Started to not post this one as I figured it wouldn't be on anyone's radar here but I have to get a thread setup so I can copy paste this onto other forums in the future.  This game goes through what's known as a "self test" on plug in.  Was removed from a skating rink due to possible injury upon self test mode, should the game have been unplugged and plugged back in with children around.  Bike moves out of sync with gameplay on screen.  I believe Doug had the actual animatronic part of the bike disabled while he demonstrated the game.

Post by: R.P.D rookie on June 24, 2008, 06:08:17 pm
Majors has informed me that the Darkstalker CPS II board seems highly priced. Being that Majors is much more proficient in the arcade cab scene than I can hope to be, I will say call Doug's number and talk to him directly if you feel some prices are too high that were stated.

Again, these aren't prices I came up with but they shall remain that way. I will leave it up to Doug to change the price if he desires because I don't want to get a call saying "Why are people calling me about this price when I originally told you to list it for X price?".  I in no way am making a profit from selling these machines, this is simply a favor to a man who is not well versed in the ways of using the internet to sale items.

Again, the number to call is: 1-225-772-8681.  His name is Doug and is stationed in Mobile Alabama

What do they call that style of juke? Manufacturer or model? Looks identical to what I used to shove quarters into at my local teenage hangout/arcade/pizza joint.

I'm not entirely sure.  I can inquire more about it as I should be going on Saturday to look over more of these arcade cabs and parts.  I just got off the phone with Doug and Boxing Bugs is spoken for!  I can't believe it, of all the games I listed.  Pleiades is also spoken for!

I'm sick of seeing these arcade clearances in the US, why can't some doddery old arcade owner pop his clogs in one of the English seaside towns so I can pick over his bounty? I'd travel anywhere; England's fairly small!

I just thought to myself, travel across the whole country?  I wouldnt even drive all over Texas to get something.

So I superimposed England over Texas (http://eminent.omgbbq.com/misc/texengland.jpg), and England (not the whole UK) is basically the area from Dallas to San Antonio to Houston.

Considering I live in Dallas, and will be driving to San Antonio next weekend, and Houston the one after that, I have decided that your comment makes perfect sense!

Agreed! Makes me scared to think whats happened to all those cabs in all those arcades that used to litter the seaside resorts of the UK. Now hardly any Arcades anywhere!, just the other month i went to Butlins (a well know holiday camp resort in the UK, once had about 10 sites, now down to 4-6!) and not an arcade in sight apart from one area for the whole camp!!, when i used to go when i was a kid there used to be at least 2 arcades on each camp, RIP joystick cabs!  :'(

England's small, but the tight network of roads and the fact we have a thing called 'corners', means even a 10-mile journey can take over an hour!

Yeah, Doug reminded me a few times that he was informed about the arcade machine's rarity.  It's hard to tell what some of these things should be priced at.  Here I thought Boxing Bugs might not sell at $800 but someone bought that one and it was underpriced!  I'm not making a cent off doing any of this so Doug is the one doing this: :banghead: after the many phone calls about Boxing Bugs.

I went down to his warehouse this past Saturday and not too many pictures this time around because we spent most of the morning sorting through circuit boards and plugging a lot of old cabs.  Some of these things were covered in dust since and not touched since 1980......and actually still worked!

Game was originally Defender that was converted into RoboCop.  Proof that you can get these cabs and cram whatever you want in there.  Whoever did the conversion didn't even bother get rid of the Defender decals on the side.

Proof that it was converted from a Defender cab:

Game works, by the way but my pictures of the screen sucked.

Buy it for RoboCop or but it to rip RoboCop out to restore an old Defender arcade machine.

Pretty dusty in there but I guess nothing some compressed air wouldn't cure.

There's a slight burn in the very center of the screen but other than that, I couldn't notice anything wrong with it.  I believe he had a small list of parts replaced on it.  This is the same monitor used in Boxing Bugs, which I never thought would sell for what it did nevermind it was reported to me underpriced, so you never know someone might want this.

Call Doug for the details on this part if interested.

No price on it yet, just had a picture of it taking up space on my hard drive.  Will try to get more pictures of it Tuesday along with more cabs and circuit boards.  We spent most of Saturday morning going through circuit boards and plugging in cabs to see which ones were working.

Havok:   When I mentioned "cockpit driven racing games" to Doug, the only thing he came up with was "World Rally" circuit board.

The plan is to go back Tuesday to look over the circuit boards.  We tried Saturday morning but it's overwhelming, to say the least, he'd have to plug everyone in and test it.  It took us about an hour to find out a Mr.Do!  circuit board was functional as we went through a few Mr.Do! cabs to double check the board's function.  He jokingly entertained the thought of packing 100 boards as a group.  I like the idea myself!  I think I'll persuade Doug to save circuit board sorting for the very last moment before I have to move.

Also, off the top of my head here's a few other games I noticed around the place:

Rush'n Attack

MrDo Run!

Ring King

MrDo's Castle   (or something along those lines)

Lady Bug

Burgertime Diner

There's a couple of other jukeboxes in the place, will try to get pictures of them tuesday.  Many more cabs inside this place, we're just scratching the surface.

$800 seems like a pretty darn good deal, and I would have paid that in a heartbeat.  A good Tempest can go for around $800, and they made 35,000 of those.  Seeing that price makes me feel a little bit better, though.  I was afraid to ask the price, thinking it would be $150 or something like that...

He actually has a Tempest!  Not sure if it's for sale or a part of his personal collection.  I'll ask but I  played it and it's quite an interesting game to say the least.  I had no idea what was going on but just waiting to "warp" to the next area before weird geometric shapes walking on lines killed me.

So I superimposed England over Texas (http://eminent.omgbbq.com/misc/texengland.jpg), and England (not the whole UK)
thats not just england, its england and wales, thank you

Wow, the UK must be very densely populated. 60 million people in that small area. Texas has 25 million in a much larger space.

When I visited the UK it didn't strike me as being that densely populated. Even London, a huge city, didn't strike me as being that dense.
