Hi everyone. I hope this is the right category to post this in. I am currently in the process of building a Mortal Kombat 3 JAMMA/MAME combo cabinet from scratch, and looking around one day I found a complete factory Midway control panel on eBay that used to be a Mortal Kombat 2. Someone had converted it to Primal Rage, but it is pretty much the same control panel as MK3, so I bought it to try and save myself some work. When I got it, I decided to see what condition the artwork was in underneath the PR overlay. So I peeled it away to reveal a perfect MK2 overlay. I was amazed, it didn't have any extra holes drilled in it, no marks or discolorations, nothing. The only problem was that the black vinyl that they used to cover it left ALL of the glue on the CP. Seeing how great the artwork looked, I decided to make a short side project and restore the MK2 CP as best I could. The sides and front had been painted black, but I could still see the outline of the artwork under the paint. I bought some Goof Off and some rags and started the task of removing the paint. It was pretty slow going, but it worked. Slowly I started seeing the Midway logo appear on one side, then the other. Then I started on the front. Nothing. I could definitely see the outline under the paint, but no matter how much Goof Off I used or how hard I scraped, I just couldn't get to the artwork. I looked closer and noticed that they had used the same black vinyl to cover the front as they had the CPO, then painted black over that. ??? :dunno So I cut around the vinyl with a knife and peeled it off. Under all that was some very good condition artwork. Not perfect, but really good IMO. However, that stupid vinyl left all of the glue behind again. So I took my rag and a whole lot of Goof Off, and about half an hour later it was adhesive free. I started working on the CPO, but it has a bit more texture than the front art, and is going to take a lot longer. So I decided to take a break to post about it. I will post an update when I have finished. I have actually been planning to build a Mortal Kombat 2 after my current projects are done, and this CP is turning out so nice I think I am going to keep it as an MK2 and just use it as a template to build a new CP for my MK3. So much for saving me some work. ::) Anyway, I am excited and just wanted to share my progress. ;D

This was hiding under the Primal Rage CPO.

Some of the old glue left behind.

Well, at least it isn't on the artwork anymore...

My progress so far...

Just need to finish up the glue removal, add some new T-Molding, buttons and joysticks and it'll be as good as new.

Do any of you think it would be worth scanning the Primal Rage overlay? It would take some work to digitally fill in the holes and touch it up, but if there is interest, I may add that to my projects list. I haven't been able to find any Primal Rage artwork anywhere in the short time I've been looking. So what are your opinions? Worth it or no?

Attached are some MIDWAY sides for your CP box and a new front piece if you want them...

You also talked about building an MK3 from scratch. I did that very thing. Here is how it turned out if you haven't seen it before...

MK3FAN - Cool, thanks! I have seen your videos, they are great. I do have a question for you. What thickness plexiglas do you use? I accidentally messed the plexi up when I had it off, so I will have to make a new one (it wasn't that great anyway, so no real loss). I saw your plexi video, but you didn't say what thickness you use. Thanks again, I really appreciate your help!

The plexi thickness I used was 1/8th"
