Title: LCD Topgun... ON STAGE!
Post by: Chazz on June 20, 2008, 06:00:25 pm
My wife needed some guns for her play, so I gave her my old LCD Topgun.  They'll be using it in the show, and this pic was on the cover of the paper.

With a fancy gun like that I sure hope she was saved by Captain Malcom Reynolds.

Chazz just out of curiosity... what made you cut the cord and turned it into your 'old' LCD TopGun?

It died some how, no recoil, no windows, nothing worked.  I bought a second gun and this one is working great and I gave up trying to fix the first one.

That`s the set.  It`s an outdoor theatre in Peterborough called 4th Line Theatre (http://www.4thlinetheatre.on.ca/)

Here`s a few more pics from the show

Peterborough?!  Wow, that brings back memories... (grew up in Thornhill/Richmond Hill).

All the years of driving through Peterborough on the way to the cottage each summer, and stopping at the road-side diner just on the edge of Peterborough.  They made the BEST pie.  Mmmmmm.... blueberry pie.... (sure beats those crazy ass marble-sized things they pretend are blueberries out here in BC)

Sigh...

Know, uh, any ShadowMasters ?

Not to be mean but that first pic of the girl being assaulted, she looks like she's a  bit overweight but on the normal stance pic of her, she looks a lot thinner.

I wasn't trying to put her down. I was just making a comment on something I noticed. Apparently people here are too sensitive.

For every constructive criticism I make people take it to the heart. Why do people even bother showcasing their projects if they don't want to hear anything bad about them? Where are we in kindergarten? Jeez...

How is calling someone fat 'constructive criticism'??
And what are you talking about people showcasing their "projects"??  This is a human being, not a "Project".

You going around calling people fat shows you're the one still in kindergarten.

That's not a double chin from being overweight, that is a facial expression which people have when they are incredibly desperate or sad.  It is not errant photography.

The constructive criticism part was a separate paragraph dealing with some of my comments towards other peoples cab projects and not the actress' difference in appearance. That's why I separated them.

Now if I would have blatantly said she was fat and made fun of her because of it that would be a kindergarten reaction. No, instead I just pointed out how I think she differs in one pic from the other. If you think my observation is an insult, then fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But my apologies to that lady if she feels insulted.
Title: Re: LCD Topgun... ON STAGE!

What I don't get is why your observation was even worth posting about in the first place? You must have too much time on your hands to make a criticism about something that has nothing to do with the thread, and doesn't even have any relevance on this site in general.

And why in the world you'd bring criticism of people's arcade projects into the discussion is beyond me.
Title: Re: LCD Topgun... ON STAGE!
Post by: fjl on June 22, 2008, 06:45:25 pm
Cause it relates to how people also don't like the criticism I give out about their cab projects. I seem to get the "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" feeling from many of the posters here about their work. When I showcase some of my work, I encourage comments and criticism. If someone knows a better way of doing something or a way to make it look better then by all means tell me.

But its all right, I'm sure my supposed "kindergarten" "insult" will only add more to the list of people who hate me and those who already hate me will hate me even more. I'm not here to be liked. I'm here to share thoughts, information and ideas. And if you don't like what I have to say, feel free to use the Ignore User option. I won't be offended.

This is getting ridiculous already but yes I was bored and had nothing better to do than to bring up the difference I noticed in the pictures. Why do some people like to make it seem like having free time on your hands is a bad thing? And I wasn't criticizing the girl, I just mentioned what I noticed. Criticism is how others viewed it. Would it have been criticism if I had said she looked skinnier? ::)

Wow, it's a storm in a teacup.

In reply to the original post: That's cool that it ended up in the paper... thats quite a talking point.

Its kind of funny though that you can still see the cable stub, and that gun looks pretty 'robocop' for some guy out in the country... heheh. I'm sure nobody watching the play would notice, but its kind of funny to observe here.

There's something called tact and you don't seem to have it. Freaking rude. And personally, I think, incorrect.

You could have easily pointed out the first photo was captured while the lady was making a strange face...but instead you decided to roll with the whole "overweight" thing...which isn't in the least bit correct.

Sorry, I was teaching at a Leadership Training Camp all week.  The 12-18 year old boys I worked with all week wouldn't have made comments like this.  I agree with Saint that it's about tact or the lack thereof.

Efjayel, you keep posting about people hating you.  You did it in Forum Discussion and mentioned that everywhere you go, you find people end up hating you.  Regardless of your perspective on that, you simply must face the fact that you exhibit behaviors that are generally considered unacceptable.  Not only do you make a derogatory comment about someone's wife, you defend it without attempting to understand why you should apologize.

It's not like we don't understand your intent (which was that the pictures showed "differences" in her physical features that you simply wanted to comment about.  However, you came across as an ass and people called you on it.  It's not about being right (or in this case, being wrong) but about tact.  You could have easily said something like "Funny observation:  she is quite thin/attractive, but her pose and acting in the first picture makes her look different than the others"  Instead, you came off like a jerk.

You've done it before and think it's everyone else's fault which is incorrect. You also refuse to use the @(#$&@#(&$ search button and have been called on it numerous times.  As a part of a bigger community, you need to understand that you have rights here just like all the rest of us.  You also have responsibilities which you fail to live up to sometimes.  Assess first what you can change then assess where you fit in here.

Sorry for the length of my rant.  This one really pisses me off.

On a side note, and a more positive one; Chazz, how many times has she given you the look in the last picture with her hands on her hips knowing that she is totally pissed at you?   ;D   I wouldn't want to get that look very often, though she is cute like that too.

I think she looks like Kate Hudson in the 2nd pic.

I am curious about the choice to use a gun like that, when you could have gotten a more authentic looking toy 6 shooter from Wal-mart. Better yet, get a lethal enforcers arcade gun and spray it black. I'm sure it isn't a big deal and the audience wouldn't notice, but the other outfits and guns in the pics look authentic. The top gun sticks out like a sore thumb.

And side note: A Firefly play would kick ass!  ;D
Any time I hear old country fiddle music, I think of that show and fight a tear or two back.  :'(

I happen to be brutally honest. It's the way my father raised me since he was the same way. And while my comment came off as being a "jerk," like I said before, that wasn't my intention. But apparently that's how everyone saw it.

I don't like that search function it doesn't really work the way it should. And at times I'll ask old questions because I want to start a new conversation on an old subject without having to bump some old thread. But some don't like to talk about the old. And other times I do search for certain topics but none answer the specific question I have.

As for the Stage show, since it's set in the future, does this mean the whole western Cowboy look makes a comeback?  :dunno

If you want to be brutally honest without regard to how people will interpret it, then lots of people will think you're a jerk. Sometimes how you come across is more important than what your intentions are. It seems that you should think about that more often before you say something.

But my apologies to that lady if she feels insulted.

When someone says "if I offended you" or "if you feel insulted" when trying to apologize, it means they don't understand what they did/said was wrong.  That's not an apology.  It's ---That which is odiferous and causeth plants to grow--- wrapped in foreskin.

Just because you were raised to be honest, it doesn't mean you don't have a responsibility to be polite.  That's why Saint said you were rude and were lacking in tact.  Intent doesn't matter, reality does.  Tact is the ability to be honest and polite at the same time.  I strongly suggest you learn how to do that for your own sake.

Don't ---smurfette--- about the search function and say it doesn't work.  You're too ---smurfing--- lazy to even use Google for certain things (i.e. asking wtf Digg was).  Having read some of your moronic postings on other message boards and seeing why you got banned, I honestly hope you can become a contributing member of this community.

I remember the Digg thing. I didn't know it was such a crime to ask a simple question like "wtf is Digg?" and that I am expected to google everything before asking a simple question.

You really should learn to research things before asking them on a forum. If this forum was full of people asking "simple questions" it would not be a friendly forum to visit. It's just good advice dude.

As for the comments you said in this thread, you should just apologize, learn from it, and move on. It's not acceptable behavior. I've said things and had to take them back. It's very difficult to try and defend a position as weak as the one your in.

Dude, you do seem to misunderstand brutal honesty, which I respect, with lack of responsibility to what is said.  A piece of advice, please disregard it if you wish, but an apology goes a long way when it's not followed with a "but..." and a bunch of other stuff that negates said apology.  This is what almost everyone has seen here. If you wish to disregard the majority of people's comments as lemmings, as opposed to consider even for a moment that maybe they are right and you should just back off, then there's no much else to say.  ie: let their brutal honesty be considered as such: honesty and take action from it.

For the record, my friends consider me brutally honest, but with respect.  it's possible to do both.  No one is asking anyone to be perfect, but the choice of words were poor/inappropriate and that's why people are reacting as they are.

Heres a rule for you:
10. Generally annoying behavior. If you're following all the rules but are still managing through conduct or behavior to annoy a significant portion of the BYOAC membership to the point where the forum as a whole suffers, you will first be asked to modify your conduct and then will possibly be banned.

This is getting funny already. To think you went though the TOS just because of me to point out something from it. But at the same time, the proportions of this conversation is getting ridiculous. Why are you people who have nothing to do with this bothering to get involved? No wait, don't answer that. Let's just let this die already...
