(I mistakenly posted this in the Main forum too, thought it should really be here)
Ok, I'm finally just about done with my Mame cabinet. I have a rotating monitor and rotating control panels.
Question about front ends - I haven't found one I love and before I go and try to write one myself I'd like to know if something like this exists: Since I am rotating my screen I'd like a front end that can filter on game orientation (vertical vs. horizontal). So basically, when I decide to play with the screen vertical, I am only offered vertical games.
I tried Lazarus, I've seen things that indicate it can filter on this - but I don't see a way to do it, mainly because I don't have a game list with orientation included. Is there a master game list out there that includes orientation and/or a front end that can filter on this?
In addition to filtering on vertical/horizontal is there a front end that will auto rotate the game to vertical/horizontal based on the known orientation of the game? I know just about all the front ends you can manually go in and set it up to rotate 90 degrees for a vertical game (i.e. Pac Man, Galaga) - but instead of setting that up for the 1500 vertical games (or whatever there are), is there a front end that will "know" to do this?
I get the feeling I'll need to write my own, but that will take away from me actually playing it! :-*
Thanks!
Doug

read teh filter docs for lazarus, now the new Dragon King.

Mame .68+ does this now, it's the autoror/rol options.

The new version of MAMEWAH might be of use...

mine has a default dynamic filter for it and you can save that list on the fly if you want to have a seperate list for hor and vertical games if you want.
to auto rotate all vertical games you just have to add this commandline option
15|vertical|-rol| this will search for vertical in field 15 of a gamelist entry and if found it will ad -rol to the commandline.
also check out emutron it can be setup to auto rotate the fe itself to the orientation of the last game played. in mine you will have to press a key for now but I could also add this if there is need for that...
