I blew my 5 in 1 Namco board somehow (was only 7$ shipped off of eBay) but wondered if
I should step up my cabinet build with a PS1 or PS2?
Which of these systems have a good selection of arcade classics on disk? I figure this is the next step up
before I build a MAME cabinet, but I was saving that for an old 26" TV I have.

PS2 has the best collections. Easily.
Namco, Midway, Neo Geo, Capcom, Sega, Williams, Gotlieb, etc

Cool. And still cheap to find. I assume the games can be played without the analog controls.....not sure if I would mess with adding those to a build.......

Also there's two Taito Legends collections, but they require analog (for some dumb reason).
You can pick up several of these at Walmart for $9.82 each.

another nice thing about the ps2, is that you can make it a lightgun cabinet too. get yourself a pair of guncon 2 controllers and a few gun games and you add a whole other dimension to your cabinet. i am in the process of building a ps2 gun cabinet right now, and it is alot of fun. i don't use it for anything other than gun games, since i have two other mame cabinets, but i thought about adding some external controller ports for playing guitar hero on it.

If you're doing a 'console-only' machine, go with PS1 or PS2. As well as the classics, you get a lot of neat arcade conversions from the 90's on the PS1, like Ridge Racer, Tekken etc., plus you can have Point Blank and Time Crisis if you pick up some G-Cons, like I did for my first machine.

Seeing as the PS2 can play PS1, I see no reason to even consider a PS1 unless it's for budgetary reasons.
